Amount of door control for different formats? Options

I was wondering what the door control recommendations for different formats are - I think I read that it's not a good idea to have a Gencon 200 point squad without 3 Ugnaughts. Is this true for 100 and 150 as well? Or is less door control OK?

For instance, would an R2-D2 Astromech and one Ugnaught be acceptable for 100 points? Or is more necessary?

Generally, it will depend on your local meta.

But in terms of highly competitive play like Gencon, the following are a good guideline I suppose.

100 - 1 Ugnaught and 1 override, or 3 ugnaughts
150 - 2-3 ugs, 1 override (I wouldn't play 150 without some override)
200 - same as 150, although having 2 overrides is a good idea, still need 2-3 ugs. Personally, I find using Lobot at 200 to be the best way to go in about 75% of competitive squads, because not only can you get more door control when you think you need it, but you can forgo it for other things when you don't.

Bill's breakdown seems accurate. My two Regionals squads had 1 Override piece each, and one had 3 Uggies while the other had 4 (and in that one, they were also used for more activations since it was a GMLS squad). Double Override is also useful at 200 (Lobot / R7, or a couple ERCs).

Thanks! I don't think there's tons of door control at my local meta - I'm interested in guidelines for 100 format squads as we're having a little tournament this week, and there's doesn't seem to be much talk about 100 anymore, which makes sense as 200 has far more possibilities.

My wife and I only have 3 ugnaughts and one override piece between us, so if she's playing, I might have to make do with less. And I am bad at initial placement and invariably lose an ugnaught at the start of the game....

I'd suggest trying to grab up a few more such pieces then. If Ugnaughts and R7s are hard to find, I'd recommend getting Lobot (Either, though both would be better) and T3-M4 for override and some Human Engineers for Satchel Charge. I wouldn't go too overboard with the engineers though as they'll be more of a placeholder piece until you beef up your collection, but some door control is better than no door control.

Obviously, ugnaughts are the most versatile, but would you say other forms of Satchel Charge are equal to an uggie, or worth more since they might come with more HP? For example, when figuring out if you have enough door control, would you count a Storm Commando as 2 uggies, 1 uggie, 0?

Sure - thanks! The Universe Lobot's on my want list, and ideally I'd have an R7 and another ugnaught too.

I'd say by default, they count as 0 because their turns are best used as doing something offensive. They'll work in a pinch, but it will hurt in the long run if you're using the Commandos to blow up doors instead of blasting the opposition for a large chunk of damage.

I'd suggest getting even more. I'd try to get around 10 or more ugnaughts as that way you can slap down a large chunk of them for Reserves and/or Reinforcements. Also, as you and your wife share your collection, it'll give enough for both of you to have a batch of them in your squad.

Except normally when we play bigger games we only play one at a time. Cos we only have republic pieces and then we'd have to figure out who gets Mas Amedda, and who gets Yobuck, and who gets R2-D2 Astromech Droid. So door control isn't the biggest problem we have - it would be good to have more though.

would you LGS allow proxies since you have the piece but it's in use?
