Followers within 6 squares whose names contain Snowtrooper get +4 Attack and gain Squad Assault.
I just want to be a 100% sure: if there are 4 or more Followers within 6 squares whose names contain Snowtrooper, they get +8 Attack (from the CE + Squad Assault), if less than 4 they get +4?

If the 4 characters have the same name that contains Snowtrooper within 6 of both each other and the Commander, then yes. You will only get +4 if you have 2 Snowtroopers and 2 Elite Snowtroopers within 6 of each other, or if the 4 characters are within 6 of the Commander, but not each other.

Not quite. While the CE gives all characters whose name contains Snowtrooper Squad Assault, it does not let them count as a character with the same name. So, in order for the squad ability to be active, you would need 4 pieces with the exact same name.

What if one of your snowtroopers is within 6 of the commander and 6 of the other 3 snowtroopers, but those other three aren't within 6 of the commander. Does the first snowtrooper still gain squad assault? My feeling is yes.

Yes. The Squad abilities do not require the others to have it, just that they have the same name.
