I don't want to start another controversial debate on Grand Master Luke, but I was looking at building some Tile Wars squads this morning, and came across one I built with Ganner, Kyp Durron and GMLS. It got me thinking, that in this format, I think GMLS could theoretically shine. I will play a game tonight, but don't have my minis, hopefully I can use a proxy for Ganner.
My thinking is this, Ganner can literally levitate Luke to almost anywhere on the tiles. There is little need for door control. Activations are semi important, yes, but Luke doesn't need to spend as much time manuvering into a great position. You can basically levitate him straight away next to someone and triple twin them. Levitate him next to their main shooter if they have one. Obviously he is weak HP wise, but if you can take out their main shooting threat, or just main beat then Luke doesn't need to worry as much.
Those are just some musings. I will probably play this tonight and will let people know how it goes.

One of the problems I forsee you having is lack of initiative control. If you were to face off against something that uses Mara Jedi and has init control, she couldwind up smacking Luke for alot of dmg, or just downing one of the other pieces before you even get to activate.
Also, Vong might give you problems.

luke can force cancel mara right off the bat and then shes done for the turn. GAThrawn and Talon Karde are the biggest threats cuz of ysalarmi

If you begin with Ganner adjacent to Luke then Mara has to decide who to put her 120 Dam on. If she kills Ganner then he is next to Luke and he and Kyp can kill her. If she goes for Luke, she had better hope she kills him. If she goes for someone else then levitate Luke in after her and get her. She would obviously be the first target.

On the other hand, yes, he could just try to block two of her attacks with Lightsaber Defense, but still, my point is valid. 2) Do you mean a combination of GA Thrawn with Karrde? Cause Karrde doesnt have Ysalmiri... @ wannabemexican: I agree, obviously she is the first target, but if she gets that big dmg on you a single time, then her job is more or less done. She's done considerable dmg to you, likely putting at least 90 on her target of choice(assuming Luke would make 1 save and miss another), while the Mara player would only be down 45 points. Actually, a better idea might be to go for Ganner and down him immediately, so you can make Kyp Savage, so he cant push you without being adjacent for the rest of the match...hmmm... Im not saying thats a good boat to be sitting in, but its not terrible either. The point Im making is that there are at least a few good options that are going to leave Luke hurting in 200pt TW with only 3 activations for your team. MTB + Felucian + Anakin could do a world of hurt on that three man team as well.

for some reason I thought Karde has Ysalarmi. I guess someone's custom stats got stuck in my head or I have been reading way too many comics.
GMLS acts first and attacks mara. He gains 2 FP and then cancels 2nd turn.

GMLS acts first and attacks mara. He gains 2 FP and then cancels 2nd turn. And if Mara has init control on her side? You do that and Mara moves up after your 3 acts have finished, and assaults Luke. Cancel away if you want. If you do, she wins init, and does it again next turn this time with cunning. If you hold off, her own Ganner simply moves her out of range of Luke. Obviously the point was that Mara was one example of a piece that can do a number on Luke. Tile Wars is a different format, in that the things you regularly see are not that common. I wouldn't count on Luke being able to cancel, and then also be of a whole lot of use otherwise (no djem so rerolls, and no lightsaber defenses if he's using his force for force defense). I'd be more than happy to burn luke up on using his force thusly.

Oh, the team actually has more than just 3 activations.
My squad is this:
GMLS Ganner Kyp Ng'ok 3x Mice
Maybe that wasn't clear from the beginning. So the Ng'ok can BG a bunch of damage as well. I totally forgot to mention that he is there specifically to absorb as much damage as possible against Luke and Ganner.

Not to hijack the thread too far, but how effective would GA Thrawn be in tile wars? Are Force powers used that often?

Lol yeah I meant the Houjix.
@Lobotnik, it is just one of many Tile wars squads I could pull out on you.

Yes, he can be handy, as lots of people play FP heavy stuff in Tile Wars. 2x Uggernaught, GA Thrawn, GM Tarkin, Gen Veers, Jabba CL, Arica, and I think you can fit like 8 more points or something. If Wicket fits, which I think he does, then go for him. If they dont start behind some doors, you make sure to place so Tarkin can draw los right off, so you can go with 3 before they activate. With the two uggernaughts shooting, and arica if you decide not to swap, they ought to lay some serious hurt down on your opponent before they even get to take a turn. Dont know how this will fair against the Luke GM squad that this thread is about, but I think its pretty good, none the less.

Luke is a good piece. I don't think tiles is his place though. There are too many good shooters that can destroy him.
That being said at 200 points that squad base the OP has is what i ran at gencon in the team tourney. I think it was luke, ganner, kyp, r7, mice and uggies. It's prob the best build your going to get with GMLS as of now :).
Anyway force defence is like the last thing you want to use on luke anyway. He wont last 2 rounds on tiles if he has to FD stuff. He is a really fun piece but is EXTREMELY complicated to run, ive seen him ran SO many times and very few have ran him well.
