i was thinking perhaps you could do like a booster opening thingy but with characters only from your collection. like click open and it will give your 4 random commons 2 uncommons and 1 R/VR from your collection. i think that would be cool

I second that. I've been thinking of it for a little while, as it would be a lot smoother than my other randomized games.
My ones were:
a) Put all the minis in one box and pick a specified amount out. Huges not allowed ;)
b) Open up Browse Characters and use the minis that come up on Vassal.
c) ditto, but with Open Boosters instead of Browse Characters ( not my idea lol)
