I was thinking about the cost of these two characters versus Darth Revan, Sith Lord. We all know how tough they still are, however, for the 80+ points you are paying for them it seems like they are just missing something.

So, to give them the proper fear factor they deserve as the second and third highest costed Sith Lords (and without recosting them), I was thinking the following "small" changes would be potent...

Darth Bane: add the force power Overwhelming Force

Exar Kun: add the force power Master of the Force 2

What are your thoughts?

(disclaimer: this is not by any means asking that these characters be errata'd or changed in any official way. If it happens, sweet. For now, I just want to discuss if this would make them more playable, or totally "broken". Think of it as a house rule.)

After playtesting revan for the vset we accually found that darth bane as is is one of the best parings with revan. Naga Sadow is also one of the better ones, but with bane you get all your mojo on the move with lightsaber assualt, sweep, throw, sorcery, and rage.

I think the playtesting squad was something like
Darth Bane
Revan, Sith Lord
Sith Accolyte
Lobot
fodder

Revan dropped the accolyte in early for a repulse to take out fodder or damage beats. Then revan swapped bane into the middle to wreck havok, by that time revan is at full vs a weaken enemy, and Revan will win that matchup most of the time.

It isnt the best build but its really fun. As for Exar Kun he and revan make for a really tough duo. Revan moves assualts swaps in kun who triples then transfers away killing an uggie to go back into your backfiled. Thats 120 damage and you take 0 damage to do it. Granted its a ton of points but that squad is really really fun.

As for those errata's i think they would work best as a house rule kind of like you said. I do like Overwhelming Force idea for bane. But MOTF 2 on kun means he can transfer in triple and transfer out in the same round.

What im accually most curious about is what will the standard Revan build be for 200 points? kind of like Yobucks standard build is with general skkywalker. I think exar kun and darth bane could maybe find their way into top tier builds with revan, but that remains to be seen.

I definitely agree with your comments Weeks. I have thought about the potential with new Revan and both Exar and Bane. (Caedus also becomes quite interesting...especially with Bandon in the squad)

However, I was thinking of their playability "without" the new Revan in the squad. I know they would hold their own (to an extent), but for that many points it just seems like they don't put out enough to make up for it. Hence the reason for this post.

Bane having Overwhelming Force means that those pesky low point Parry characters won't be nerfing him anymore. And it's not free for Bane, he still has to use FPs to break through the defenses.

Exar having MOTF2 and Transfer might sound like a bit much to swallow. But again, he's 84pts! If Revan, at 62pts, can run in from 12 squares away and nail someone for 80pts (Bandon & Cunning) and then transfer out, how is that any different? At least Exar would be dropping two of his own characters to do it...without having a "new" character swapped in place of him to wreck havoc.

If you compare new Revan to Exar, well, it's no comparison for the points difference. He needs the ability to use Sith Sorcery and still do some damage (or transfer out) to make him worth anything close to his point value.

Bane is fine. My big thing with him, is that you have to retool how you play him. He has decent damage, but the thing you should be playing him for now is Sith Sorcery/MOTF 2. His Damage potential is a handy trait, but that isn't the main thing you should be using his Force Points for anymore. Unlike Naga, he isn't screwed when he is facing Droids, Mounted Weapons, or Damage Reduction/Dark Armor. He shouldn't be played like was when COTF came out.

Kun is also fine. He has a different bag of tricks than Revan. Sith Sorcery is very potent option. Transfer Essence is also key if you are running the MTB option, which is very potent with Master Tacticion making more appearences. That and his statline is the best in the game. And depending on the squad, can add quite a bit damage output.

I actually ok with Exar as is but bane is missing something when he can be taken down by a 2 or 3 shots from senate commandos. The fact Bane is bested so easily against little guys has always pissed me off.

I think Exar's coolest feature is his CE. With it, savage characters became actually playable, especially against jedi.

Psst...Weeks....Acolyte hasn't been previewed yet....watch it! :P

I agree though. Revan SL's swap CE makes Kun and Bane a nasty choice with Revan. Rukh just posted a squad over on Gamers that was just Revan, Kun, Bandon, and Lobot. 200 point exactly, and only 10 activations total. But you have Revan run up, then swap with Kun, who then does 90 damage (thanks to Bandon), and then Transfers out into an Ugo, leaving your opponent with nobody to attack, lol. Maybe tough to pull off all the time in competitive 200 point games, and probably not something that will win GenCon, but it is still pretty impressive. I'd put combos like that in the realm of things like GMLS. Tier 2 in most situations, but definitely a 'spoiler' build against some opponents. Not to mention Revan and Kun's nasty defense with the high HP, high Defenses, and Revan's LS Defense to boot.

Revan + Bane is just plain nasty. Bane's problem has always been how to get him into combat and/or how to keep him safe after pummeling somebody. Being able to use Revan's CE to get Bane safely around the board and right in your opponent's face is just...ouch.
