Hey folks ;)
I'm looking to buy an ebook reader, and after doing some research it seems that eith the kindle or the Ipad would be my best options. Anyone have any advice? I'm looking to buy a device that I'll be able to get lots of use out of.
To be honest, although the Ipad is a more versatile toy, I'm not too bothered because I have an Ipod already. Looking for the best thing for ebooks.
Any help or advice would be appreciated :)

Hm, iPad can do more me thinks. I hate unitaskers... But if you're going for solely ebook reader (having no experience whatsoever with either... I merely toyed around with an iPad yesterday, kinda so cool!!) the kindle might be easier on the eyes with that fake-paper-text-stuff... Then the question of compatibility comes in. I have no clue how well/able the ebooks are in being transfered to newer/other tech. Oh, and battery life. Never want it to die in the middle of an intense scene...

One issue with the iPad is direct sunlight, while with a kindle you don't have that issue since it's basically a book.
But beyond that it's all about what needs you have.

It really depends if you want a dedicated e-book reader or something that can do more. The Ipad can definately do more than all the e-book readers can. If you don't want all that extra stuff, go with the Ipad, if you just want to read books, go with an ebook reader. I personally really like the e-ink dispalys on my Nook, which is why I'm not likely to get the new NookColor.
As for the e-book readers, I obviously chose the Nook. I'm a fan of it. While the new Kindle has caught up with a few of the reasons I chose, in terms of wireless connectivity. It still appears the Nook supports more formats of e-books. I love that the Nook can be used to read ebook files that you can get outside of Barnes and Noble. The Kindle, last I checked, only supports the Amazon format and PDF, whereas the Nook, in addition to Barnes and Noble and PDF, supports the more universal epub format. This is key as it opens up where you can shop for ebooks. The Kindle you are pretty much stuck with Amazon, whereas I have some from Borders on my Nook. I'm also a fan of the touch screen vs key board controls (plush the cover display is just cool).
It comes down to preference, but I have been happy with my Nook purchase (just be sure to get the protection plan), as Barnes and Noble runs some wizard specials (Free Fridays are fun, and over the sun, they released most of their Classics for free).
As for compatibility, don't expect to much cross company compatibility. I don't expect to be much issues when it times to upgrade your ebook reader.

I haven't spent much time with a Kindle or Nook, but we abso-freakin-lutely love our iPad. I steal it from my wife whenever I get a chance (technically, it's hers, lol). Maybe the whole "kindle/nook is easier on your eyes" thing just doesn't bother me that much, since I spend like 80% of my days at work staring at a computer screen anyways.
But for the simple fact that the iPad can do SO much more than either of those, plus it is always expanding and expanding in its use by the release of new apps/operating system updates....I just can't see going for a Kindle/Nook for ANY reason other than the fact that they are cheaper.
