I imagine it happened shortly after Wizards dropped the license to SWMs, but I didn't think DCI would drop the game, too. What does this mean for the future? Are there not going to be any more DCI-sanctioned tournaments... ever? Not even at GenCon Indy? One of the top things on my "bucket list" was to go to GenCon Indy for the minis, but it's pointless now if they're not going to have any more tourneys...

www.swmgamers.com has taken over. They are responsible for Regionals and Gencon. Trust me, the players have already picked up where WOTC left off. It helped they essentially let those players already do the work while they still had the license. I also assume they stopped support the same time they took the site down. Giving us an hour to salvage anything...

I haven't heard anything about new ranking systems or anything. It would be cool if 2 players could just agree to let a game be official and count it toward whatever rankings swmgamers is running. Would be especially nice for Vassal games.

you can expect that this year (2011) there will be another GenCon. Be there or be square. Also worth noting that the V-set(s) produced by SWMGamers will be legal for those tournaments.

SWMGPA is picking up where DCI left off. The guys have the DCI data and have been inputting data for games/tournaments since DCI was stopped. So that means we will have current rankings. Well, as current as we've played and reported. You even get to keep your DCI #. I just hope my (SWM)GPA is higher than it was in high school. SWMGPA = Star Wars Minis Gamers Players Association.

I was gonna recommend that the "A" in SWMGPA would stand for Alliance; but Association sounds good enough.

The only downside is not every player is honest. It would lead to abuse. It may be different if say at a store or somewhere where there are judges. But, I know that is a problem where there are not any stores or anything like it. Not, really any good solutions which is why the regionals help.

yes tournaments will continue. Think about for a second. Did the DCI make your tourney's or did the players who played in them.
This much like the V-sets were thought out and prepared for long before DCI and Wizos walked away.
So yes the rankings are frozen at the moment due to so many projects getting worked on and we have to prioritize things. Rankings right now is low on that scale.
Gencon and regionals continue on for 2011 and the forseeable future. So please make every attempt to attend Gencon and I will try to make it worth your while.

We have someone who saved, and has been entering the data tirelessly into a system. And I think, he was working on a reporting system as well. But what this project really needs are a couple of other people with ability and knowledge of this type of programming and data collection to step up and make it happen.
