Do characters with the lightsaber SA (+10 vs adjacent enemies) count has having a light saber on ranged attacks? Do they ignore damage reductions from a range, or only when adjacent?

The glossary here states "This character uses a lightsaber instead of a blaster when attacking adjacent enemies. Such attacks get a +10 bonus to Damage." However, "blaster" is not a game term, so i was not sure if that is just flavor, or if the ruling is that the attack is considered "without a lightsaber".

From the glossary for Damage Reduction:

When this character would take damage, reduce the damage dealt by 10. Attacks by adjacent enemies with lightsabers, or with the Lightsaber Throw Force power, ignore this special ability. Resolve this ability only after all Bodyguard decisions have been made.

It only works for adjacent attacks. Enemies are considered to have a lightsaber if they have a visible lightsaber on their mini or if they have an SA/Force Power with Lightsaber in the title.

(I'm not clear about whether a lightsaber has to be lit on the mini to count, but that's a moot point anyway.)

Something is tweaking inside my head that the SA portion of that check was removed. I posted a separate thread to make sure.

It has to be a visible lightsaber, an unlit lightsaber doesn't count because it might not actually be a lightsaber.

[Huk posted this in another thread but it fits here as well] From FAQ located on The Holocron:

lightsabers (characters with)

Q: It looks like the Dark Side Enforce has a lightsaber hilt on her belt. Does she count as a character with a lightsaber?

A: No. To qualify as a lightsaber while inspecting a miniature, it must contain the colored lightsaber blade. If that isn't visible on the miniature, you must check the stat card for any Force power or Special Ability containing the word "Lightsaber".

from the Glossary on Holocron:

with lightsabers: Certain special abilities, such as Damage Reduction, list exceptions for enemies “with lightsabers.” It’s usually easy to tell whether or not a character has a lightsaber by checking whether its miniature has a lightsaber in hand, but a few characters do not have visible lightsabers. A character also counts as having a lightsaber if it has the Lightsaber special ability or a Force power whose name contains the word “Lightsaber.”

This is the more restricting explanation. (u/l mine)
