This is an example of what I'm suggesting, we does not need to put a real date,
but tentative quarter would be enough to give an idea of what to BigGrin expect!

The problem with random scatterings is they get missed.

I've suggested several times to set up a summary thread, with no takers so far.

All you have to do is search my userid on bloo and gamers.

I've also made comments in squad ratings (I'm not sure if you can search that by userid).

I really like the poster. Can I use it?

Oh, I must have misunderstood one of your posts then.

So...

Nute Gunray
Darth Maul
Naboo Pilot
some other Naboo (Soldier?)
a new droid

that's all I remember...

That's a good start. I've also plain out said names on FB (Eric Larson, MI).

I don't get why they don't just adjust the total needed based on the Kickstarter/Amazon cut (which is given in the FAQ and works out to about 15%)?

I think going through Kickstarter gives a certain level of assurance that they might not get by doing it themselves, meaning fewer donations and less money to fund the printing. I guess we'll see.

Also you need to work in the 10-15% of payments that don't get paid when Kickstarter actually charges the card.

So, the actual funding needs to be 30% higher than the needed amount?

OR

gamers site and we are done

The math for one is much simpler than the other.

The problem with kickstarter is that the money isn't "gauranteed". They don't collect the money until later which means that you could not have enough money when they come to collect, could have been on an old card, etc. So for instance, let's say that $3000 dollars is pledged (ala V-set1) and then kickstarter goes to pledge and 25 of the pledges are unable to pay for whatever reason there goes $1000 dollars that you needed to make sure the project wasn't just an out of pocket cost right down the drain. I would be surprised if Dean didn't lose a ton of money on the first V-set.

Seems too risky when we have an easy alternative just sitting there.

You are correct, there were a lot of people who agreed to donate but when the time came they couldn't. And given the chunk that Kickstarter and Amazon take out (we were expecting Kickstarter but missed Amazon) we were in the hole a bit. A lot of us ended up donating a second time just straight to the SWMGamers' PayPal account to help with the shipping prices (which were also more than we expected). Basically, DotF gave us a lot of loops we didn't expect but we do know better now...

Kickstarter gives some ways to protect funders if the project falls through, which means a project doesn't always get all the declared funds. But that also means that people are more comfortable to buy in on project, knowing that if it doesn't get the funding it needs, their donation isn't going to just disappear.

Look at the number of people who got antsy over Shadow Troopers being sent out, vs how long people waited for the DotF funding cycle to finish and have it be released.

On the other hand, the name of the site is apt. "Kickstarter" is meant to help commercial projects get a start, covering production costs so that the creator of the project can then sell a product. Obviously, for DotF, that's not an option. And I guess it's why map projects like JC's, MM's, and plenty of others continue to use Kickstarter to successfully launch new products.

The DotF kickstarter raised significantly more money than its goal, yet the project was still underfunded and almost didn't manage to meet the demand for cards out there. Chalk it up to inexperience, but there better be a lot more attention paid toward financial planning this time, looking at the prior set as a guide for what to expect.

I think using PayPal as the central funding repository is asking for a whole new world of problems that could potentially rival any had with Kickstarter.

All that said, I don't have the numbers, I'm not involved with the project, and whatever means of funding is used, I'm probably in. I just reserve the right to link back to this post if the funding goes wonky.

This statement sure says a lot.

Said in another way:
I'm so in because I want a set of cards, but I'm going to complain at the first single small hick-up and will point back to this thread.

See I just dont understand why we don't have more trust in this community. Whatever hiccups DOTF faced, they were overcome, and the people involved proved themselves to be beyond reproach in terms of trustworthyness. I have no problem donating dircetly to Gamers for 2 reasons. First, I trust those guys, and second I want ALL the money I donate to go toward the priject, NOT to Amazon or Kickstarter.

That said, I'll go with whatever is decided, but I just don't see why people need to cast aspersions on the character or competence of the guys involved in the project, when we all know that's not an issue.

Where is the trust?

It also says that my trust in the project outweighs any concern I might have.

As soon as something is decided, I will be there with my donation. I still haven't got my cards yet, my brother has them and keeps forgetting to send them to me, but I just love the set and am doubly excited for Renegades and Rogues.
