Sure there is. You may not like the alternative, but obviously there is one. Argument by assertion isn't anything. "You can get pieces however you want Bill. You just can. Deal with it." See? Not an argument either.
Quote:You can't do this garbage in any other game, so why on earth do people think it should be allowed in SWMs?
SWM is orphaned, without a corporate sponsor the players are on their own to play under any rules they agree to. Want to make up a V-set? You can. Want to make a rule that says everyone has to play in a sombrero? You can. Tournaments are just like games at home, the players can do whatever they collectively agree to. If people like the rules you set, they come to your tournament, if they don't they don't. If people decide the V-sets are great, then tournament organizers allow them. If people decide they like or don't like proxies they allow or ban them.
If Wizards is sponsoring an event they get to set the rules. If their not, they don't. That's the reality of what people are able to do. The question becomes what
should the rules be, not what they
are. What does Soresu mastery apply to? Is there a 33 point version of Bastilla? Without Wizards, the question becomes "What
should Soresu apply to in order to make the best game." The question isn't "Is Bastilla Jedi Master a legal published character?" it's "Does having Bastilla Jedi Master make the game better or worse."
Do proxies make the game better or worse?
Quote:Just because we've decided to continue to add to our great game, does not mean anything goes. At home, sure, do what you want, I'm not talking about that.
Why not? At home or at a tournament the players sit down and agree to what sort of game they want to play.
Quote:Do you also show up to tournaments with your homemade Boba BH card (downloaded from online picture) and your custom Boba because you didn't want to pay for one? Why should you think it's ok to do with mice?
Clarity. It should be really clear what your pieces are. I can make Mouse Droids you can't tell from the Wizards ones without close inspection. If I plunk down a homemade Mandalorian or a Rebel Storm Boba it's a problem if my opponent has to keep reminding himself which of the many versions of Boba it is.
Quote:It's a big advantage in some games, and as a judge or opposing player, I wouldn't allow it.
Lets talk about what the advantage is. If it just cost I can't agree with you. Games should be contests of skill, not who spends more. Suppose the World Chess Federation announced that in official games, players could have as many queens as they wanted at $50 each. If the only argument is cost I'm not seeing the difference.
