I've noticed that the only time you see jedi with militant ranks was during the clone wars era, and specifically, in the republic faction. Even in future wars where the jedi took a large active roll (new republic vs vong) you only see "Masters" and never Generals.

Was this exclusive to the republic faction and clone war era? What about the old republic and the Reven/Malak Sith war. Was Bastilla ever referred to as General Bastilla?

Luke, Jacen, Jaina and some other Jedi of the NR held military ranks. I don't know if this is what you mean though.
Prior to the Clone Wars, the Republic did not have an army. So when they created one using clones, they figured the Jedi were ideal for leading it and commisioned them all to high military ranks.
In the NR examples I gave, those Jedi were actually part of the military and for the most part "earned" their ranks.

I remember in reading the legacy comic book series the console (all 3 of them) were discussing how stupid the clone wars were after the fact (160 years later) because I think all 3 of them were in it. There were talking about how they were dumb for being generals and taking on a military Carrear when they should have kept peace.

The Jedi as military officers (specifically generals) was pat of Sidious's trap to destroy them. It's the ultimate subversion of their true purpose that helped lead to their downfall.

Remember, in THE PHANTOM MENACE, Qui-Gon tells Amidala, "I can't fight a war for you." A decade later, that's exactly what they entire Jedi Order is doing for the Republic. For the best of reasons, they have abandoned one of their core principles.

And that is why military rank for Jedi are widespread only during the Clone Wars era.

While Jedi Generals were a big part of the Clone Wars, I would say the Old Republic has a large group of more martial Jedi. Sort of had to be with the Sith running around back then. While Lord Hoth didn't have a military rank, he still led an army.
