I only complain because it shows how much of a true fan I am!Tongue

All sillyness aside, while I don't think the franchise should be left to the fans, I also don't think it should be left to George Lucas either. I don't mind little tweaks here and there, but when the flanneled one makes changes that completely invalidates large swaths of established canon (i.e. the Mandalorians or Eeth Koth), that's what irritates me.

Lucas is to Star Wars as Hitler was to Nazi Germany.

Yes everything is based off of one man's grand idea, but that one man also sent the whole thing crashing down in flames.

And some of us fans are just as fanatical about the force as nazis are about....Nazi things

Quote from first link:

(Obi-Wan: “He was our only hope.” Yoda: “No…there is another.” Obi-Wan (not in script): “Oh, right, I f*cking held both of these kids as they were born in Episode 3. Sorry Yoda, I just plumb forgot!”)

LOL I never noticed that

Thing is, regardless of how annoying certain changes Lucas has made are (I'm looking at you Han/Greedo sceneCursing ), Star Wars actually belongs to George. He has the right to do whatever he wants to it. It's the same thing as musicians releasing remixes and remasters of their popular records.

A lot of us have our own continuity anyway (I don't give a @#$% about The Clone Wars cartoonRollEyes ), and we can take or leave whatever is introduced to the saga.

So, really, railing against Jabba... er... George for tinkering with the saga is really quite silly. Buy it or don't. But I bet most people who gripe will still buy these.

I still have my DVDs with the original theatrical releases on them Wink

Both good arguments. We could have a discussion about this topic that would last for hours.. Or weeks on Bloomilk!! I don't like everything GL has done, but it is his Brainchild. I have read every EU book and I have to say that Most.... Not all, of the recent EU is becoming unreadable(FOTJ series) Its very frustrating for me. Is this what the fans would do to the Star Wars Universe???

If the technology was available back in 1977 - 1983, GL would have put in things like brighter lightsabers and blinking eyes and none of us would be the wiser. Certainly none of us would be upset.

That said, I could do without the Nooooooooooooooo!!!!!, but I have copies of the original. No prob, I will just fast forward that scene.

Just a small rant, but I love the passion both sides have, Both make great points, I can see both sides, but if I have to read one more book with Jaina drinking a cup of caffe, or Ben taking a sanisteam, or someones pet nexu....I'm going to go crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1BlooMilk

I'm enjoying FOTJ jsut as much as I enjoy zahn's stuff, I skipped both NJO and TLOTF and i tried reading Karen Traviss but i couldn't get into her style. I'm not hung up over any of the changes to Canon. But then again I grew up on the 90's re-edits and perfer them over the 80-70s orginials.

Scared Wow, I didn't read all the way to the bottom on the follow up article.

That is really unacceptable! Cursing I would say what I really think of those guys that did that to those kids, but it would probably get censored.

Thing is you can't really say the fans should be in control of star wars. That's like saying "I buy a lot of hamburgers from Jack in the Box so they should ask me before they change the menu up" it's really just silly. GL owns star wars, so like it or not he gets to change stuff up and do whatever he wants in his universe.

Frankly I havent really liked a whole lot of star wars outside of the OT and the thrawn series, but thats just my opinion. Everyone gets their own opinion, that doesnt mean its right. Like it or not GL will do what he does when he rolls what he rolls.

My sentiments exactly.

I think it was an interesting take on the subject (while I don't agree with half of it) and just pasted the article's headline into the subject box.

I am grateful to George that he created the Star Wars saga. I think he just needs to sit back and collect his royalties from all the licensing contracts that are out there. I'll be honest in saying that some of the more recent choices George has made has left me a little perturbed.

I will admit that I am a little fearful when GL does die. Can you imagine all the writers that will be trying to make books using alternate universes of Star Wars? Just looked what happened with Star Trek when Gene Roddenberry passed away.

Sincerely,
Jester007

And Deep Space Nine's a bad thing? I think Deep space Nine was the best series out of all of them. It's sad that Gene passed away, but they had some good producers pick it up and carry on the legacy. I think the same would happen with Star Wars if GL passed away. some one he's been working with that for many years would probably continue his ideas and improve upon them.

I didn't say it was, it's my favorite out of the shows as well. It proved that Star Trek could carry on and flourish after Roddenberry's death.

I'm pretty sure the chances of new Star Wars films will die with Lucas (right or wrong).

I for one would hate to see Star Wars become like Star Trek has become.

Now I may be the only one with this opinion, but I think if they are EVER going to make another star wars movie, they should do it in the style of Star Wars The Clone Wars tv series. Why? For one, it is easeir to get better voice actors than it is to get good actors *Hayden I'm looking at you*. Most of the stuff you see in the most recent movies was CG and only a few actors did a good job of acting, like Obi Wan. Animated movies, I feel, are a better way to make Star Wars than more live action movies we will be disappointed with, such as episodes 1,2 and 3. Plus, add onto the fact that if they did sequels to the original movies, the actors who played Luke, Leia and Han are all old now and not as young as they would need to be to play the parts in a live action movie (does Mark Hamil or Carrie Fisher even act anymore?). They would be able to get voice actors, maybe even the original actors themselves, and voice the parts and give us a good movie. I know there are a lot of people who didn't like the idea of the animated clone wars movie, but in all honesty, they have gotten a lot better at animation since they made that movie through the making of the TV series. And another plus (good or bad) is that Lucas wouldn't direct the movies. Someone else would. And they would most likely do a better job at it.
