I personally love the V-sets, and while i hardly get to play anymore, I check these forums multiple times a day for new posts, any news on future sets, and I still am actively working towards a complete collection.
That being said, does anyone know how the game is doing? I know the prices of minis has been dropping on e-bay, which to me reflects a smaller and smaller number of players at this time. The V-Sets are designed to allow new players to easily join in the game, so the ability to grow the community is still there too, which is a plus.
Does anyone know how successful we expect GenCon to be? How has fund raising been going for the last few sets? Is it just as strong for v-set 4 as it was with DoTF? Is the V-Set team allowed to share the current state of the game?
Not trying to spark a panic. Just curious about the life of something thats been a huge hobby of mine since A&E.

I'm with you, my group died out shortly after Masters of the Force, and although I still make customs and collect, I rarely play, except for the game here and there with friends or family. I think the dropping prices is because lots of people are selling their collections, and either playing exclusively on Vassal, or just dropping the game. I too wonder of the larger world.

We have a thriving group of about 15 people in Lower Hutt, New Zealand - our group's grown since Masters of the Force, and the v-sets have definitely helped, as you can access good squads without having to spend much. It's mainly because kezzamachine does a great job of organising it though.

I'll try to find out how the fundraising for set 4 is going; I know that for set 3 we raised more than enough for the printing, so I don't imagine we'll have trouble getting the money for set 4. As for Gencon, I expect it to be about the same as last year, but that's just because I don't have any good reason for it to change. The people that attended last year were mostly the more serious players anyway who are still mostly involved in the game; most of the casual players have pretty much already left. The events and such have all already been planned and are good to go. Other than that, I think we're in mostly the same position we were in a year ago. Lots of regionals are going on, some with pretty high attendance and some with less impressive numbers. As for v-set development, we're where we expect to be, finishing up set 4 for Gencon and just starting set 5. We still have lots of people (more than enough actually) helping with that process, so it's going quite well. I've noticed that there are definitely some groups that have fallen apart and died, but also groups that have gotten stronger in recent years. There seem to be less total playrgoups around, but the ones that are still out there are pretty strong groups (either by high numbers or regular play).

More of an official word from NZ (not that I'm trying to squash your thunder, Hutts), we have about 15-20 players in our Save11 group, a number which has come up from what it was with the advent of Vsets, plus I understand that in the last two months we have added another 5-8 players in two new regions - Auckland and Hamilton. (Those groups are in their infancy, but we are doing our best to grow them!) A further piece to the puzzle is that there is a group of about 20 or so that play out of an LGS in Wellington (half an hours drive from us in the Hutt) that up until now have only played WotC pieces and maps, although I can confirm that they are now looking to introduce Vsets as a way to freshen their group and prepare for the FIRST NATIONAL TOURNAMENT OF SWM IN NZ! (Not that I'm excited or anything...) So, we are working hard on the game here.
SWM is growing in New Zealand.

Sure it isn't at the height of the game, but it will never be. I think the game is in a healthy spot at the moment.

Our group here in Yuuzhan'tar...Charlotte has stayed steady around 6-8 regular players. Of those, only myself and Spry post or keep up on the boards and push the v-sets. Back when wotc was still producing minis we would number around 10 or more. So we have lost a few, but gained a couple. So we're a loyal bunch as of now.

i'm in st louis. i think there may still be active groups in my state, but i think they're 2+ hours out. All my friends have dropped, but i've gotten my GF to start playing. She enjoys it a bit, but is still at the stage where she refuses to build her own squads, and yells at me over the whole "real life logic" vs "Game logic" issues.

My situation is pretty much as for Adambond. I lurk on the board and read up on how everything is going.
Next weekend, I am organizing the last Swedish championship. We have a trophé (a Han Solo-bust) that gets passed around to the winner of the tournament. Now it will be passing hands for the last time. Our group in Stockholm have played very sporadically since Masters of the Force. We moved on to play War at Sea rather intensely for a while, but now that has dwindled too. We will see what comes next. This spring, two of us started playing again in getting updated for the upcoming convention and I still love the game! The V-sets have improved the game and made all factions playable. The designers deserve a big hand for their dedication and work.
And, funny thing, I am spending about a month in St. Louis this summer and I am bringing squads to play. There is a group meeting there regularly and have been for several years without hanging at these boards or playing at conventions or anything. People in that group first introduced med to the game right when Universe were selling. Adam, lets PM each other and see if we can meet up this summer!

Pretty much dead in Southern IL. Last 2 tourneys I've played in, I drove to Owensboro KY for regionals.
I refuse to give it up. I'll play whenever/wherever I can manage to. I'm going to haunt the LGS a bit this summer when I have more free time.

We have 8 active players here in WNY and have seen a resurrection of regular play, as we have held several successful events this year.
Generally I don't get up on a soapbox but in this case and the topic is relevant I will. Last weekend at the PA regional I was taken aback as to the reception a 11 year old boy received. Not only was he welcomed warmly but several players took the time to play him in a pick up game to show him how the game is played. That 11 year old was my son Ciaran and he was beaming all day and on the ride home the next day. Saturday's event showed the quality of our community and is the reason why the game will continue survive and it's not the v-sets but the people who play and interact through our many SWM mediums. IMHO.

Last time we had a good size group together was for the MOTF sealed release event. We had about 20 people show up, just about everyone who had ever payed with the group. 4 of us played once or twice after Vset 1 came out, but that's about it since (except for a fun game or two since then). Mostly collecting now, and playing from time to time in hopes there is a revival in the Phoenix AZ area.

we have on a regular basis between 3-5 of us. Occasionally we go up to anderson and play some with them, but thats only about every month or so
