I am currently brain storming for a yammosk custom.

As I haven't read any of the EU that features these creatures, and wookieepedia can only explain so much, I was hoping you guys could help me out with a few things.

Size: Average adult head is 16m in diameter? That is quite massive, like way bigger than a rancor or any other 'huge' mini we've seen. What are peoples explanations for this guy fitting on a huge base? Is it adolescent? Burrowed mostly underground? Does the scale of the mini not quite make sense here?

Behaviour: Can anyone provide a little more info about the behaviour of burrowing with the tooth to create a "home". Does the entire mass lodge itself into a small crevice created by the tooth, or is it more like the tooth drills to find/expose a already existing cave or hollow large enough to fit it's entire body.

Any information helps. Just trying to get some things straight before I start work on this guy.

If memory serves. The fully grown world brain can 'eat' its way in to an area that it hollows out for its self.
A Yammosk or War coordinator is slightly smaller, it rests slightly submerged in a gestation pool were it is tended for slave workers.
The Huge Base was (i believe) because the Knobby white spider was an almost ready to use mini. Bulbous head tentacle like appendages.

Read the legacy book Tempest, It has a great discription of the creature.

So a world brain is a larger variation? Yammosk is slightly smaller than what?

Once burrowed, is any part of the creature exposed above the surface of it's home?

Thanks for the info, I'll certainly look into that reading.

The world brain is a Dhuryam. Only remeber just because I just read the book. As for a yammosk the best descripion I can remeber is (i forget which book its in) but some one (wurth skurder? Or droma and han?) are thrown in to the 'gesgation pool' and massage the tenticals so it grows. The concept of the customs has really become my basis for how I picture them. And I dont recall them burrowing, as they are on many ships.

hmm, thanks.

Looks like I've got a lot of reading to do.

Alright new question. What all should I read to get a clear picture of what these things are like?

It's Wurth Skidder and Droma's relatives, in Agents of Chaos II: Jedi Eclipse. Also a good one to read for Yammosk descriptions.

I always visualized the creature as a StarCraft "Overlord" in its nascent state. *Shrug*. It is a creature larger than a huge being used as a huge. You could get away with a series of tendrils as an idea as a mass of ganglia.

DB53 is right, the Dhuryam is bigger, a fully grown Yammosk. Capable of controlling and influencing every living vongformed creature.
A Yammosk war coordinator is what it says on the tin. Studies a battle and helps focus all the the Vong creatures. A job the V-set team did fantastically with their verison!

I appreciate all the helpful responses. Still really curious about size.
For the purpose of concepting a mini that is as accurate in form and scale as possible to EU description...

- Does the EU describe their size? (16m is probably just too big to fit on a huge base)
- Do they levitate? Or just prop themselves up on their array of 100km* tentacles (*again, is this size accurate?!)
- Were there ever yammosks mentioned that might be comparative in scale to the knobby white spider?

- Does any one know which parts of which novels I could skip to to get a more clear idea? I'm working on acquiring the books already mentioned, but I'd prefer to short cut to the parts I'm after.

- There seems to be a total of 3 images of these things on the web. I know the b&w one is from the essential guide to aliens, but where is the other art from? Are their more illustrations in these comics?

I deviant art searched in and just one picture came up. Basically all thoes look like a brain with tenticals. Look at the grell from D&D miniatures (minus the beak). And no they dont levitate, im pretty sure of that. And they cant be 100km big, because they are in most every battle, even ones with out capital ships. So they have to be small enough to fit on something smaller than a star destroyer.

Just re-listend to Legacy Tempest. The best way to make a good Yammosk I'd say, is to take a large base and picture that as the diameter of a pool or hole. Then have your Yammosk eye and part of its head poking out of the this, that way you can keep 70/80% of it out of sight, like an iceberg. Its tentacles are discribed as being as thick as Aleema Rars waist, she was an athleticly built Twi'lek (I know shes injured here but lets not get in semantics). Length of them, well you dont need to see all of them, just the odd segment or tip.

Colour, Black/dark fleshy to look at.
Its pupil is the size of a sullustans head. So thats a big eye!

Are they always in a gestation pool? or some sort of tank? Can they stand on their tentacles in normal gravity without being submerged?

Sighhh, sorry for the confusion. I guess I really just gotta get through some of this reading.

Vector Prime
Legacy Tempest

if you have the interwebs, and I'm sure you do, try to Google search for Yammosk.
articles, and images will help more than any of your Bloomilk friends can.

There is not talk of them standing on their tentacles. Again if memory serves they have to transported around the place. They always end up in a gestation/nutrient pool though.

Best discription is the Iceberg image though.

2 more questions.

Wookieepedia states "Immature members of this species were required to be partially submerged into nutrient liquid but in time they became full air-breathers." so my question is what happens to the air breathing ones? They don't levitate. They don't walk on their tentacles. Do they some how breathe from the liquid vat?

Second question: When slaves are sent into the vat for massage duty, are they fully submerged? Or are they floating or is the tank just shallow somehow or do they just stay close to the edges of the tank?

I really appreciate all the help so far. I'm sorry for drilling the details so meticulously.

Think of it like a Salamander or Mud Skipper. Needs water constantly when young, needs it but not as much when grown. Then like a whale, it needs the water to help take its weight, if not it gets crushed by it own weight.
Its all very vague in places, so you have to use the minds eye when reading the books.

Slaves were waist to to chest deep in the vats, obviously the bigger the thing gets, the deeper the nutrient bath, so eventually swimming slaves.

I know it seems like semantics, but the Dhuryam and Yammosk are different creatures, just related. Dhuryams were much larger specialist creatures created to become World Brains (and only 13 are known to have been bred within the immediate time frame of the Vong invasion).

Also, according to Wokkieepedia, it's the World Brain on Coruscant (a Dhuryam) that appears in Tempest, not a Yammosk, so the sizing would be a lot bigger there. I haven't read Tempest, though, so I could be wrong there.

I know, I was keeping it simple. Lol. They come from the same thing but become different creatures. There is no exact size of a Yammosk given, just that they are big; but we do get giving World brain examples.
Hows about this for size example
Yammosk is a Mini Bus.
World Brain is a doubledecker Bus.
