do you choose any commander effect you want and that character is now considered to be the commander?

No one becomes a commander. For every character with Con Artist in your squad, you choose an enemy commander. The character with Con Artist becomes subject to that commander effect (meaning that it benefits from the effect) until the enemy commander is defeated.
It's not like the Yammosk, which GAINS a CE and therefore becomes a commander. The character with Con Artist stays a follower, it's just subject to an enemy CE.

You could choose a swap CE, but it would mean that your opponent just had the option of using your piece as a swapper, so it would probably be pretty useless.

I have some other questions about Con Artist.
First, what does it mean when it says this character is subject to the commander effect "regardless of restriction". There are a whole host of different ways that could go. A restriction could be for non-melee characters only such as Admiral Yularen's CE. Or another restriction could be something faction specific like the Mandalorian Capt. Additional clarification on the "regardless of restrictions" phrase would be greatly appreciated.
Next, what about disruptive? I would assume that if I had Marn in my squad and was benefiting from an enemy CE that I could disrupt my own character from benefiting from the CE, correct? If I used Salacious Crumb to base the enemy Commander no one would normally be able to utilize that CE. That should be true for my character as well, yes?
What about when my opponent has some disruptive? If one of my characters is benefiting from an enemy CE can my opponent run Kyle Katarn JBM at me and suppress my ability to benefit from his ally's CE?
Overall I love Marn and I cant wait to give Jarael Con Artist. Just want to figure a few things out first.

Additional clarification on the "regardless of restrictions" phrase would be greatly appreciated. It's pretty much all restrictions are lifted. A good way to look at it would be to tack on the phrase "and enemies with Con Artist" to the CE description, so if Yularen was chosen, his CE would read "Followers without the melee attack ability and enemies with Con Artist gain Opportunist" while the Mandalorian Captain would read "Mandalorian Followers and enemies with Con Artist within 6 squares gain Twin Attack". Quote:Next, what about disruptive? As Disruptive prevents enemy CEs from affecting everyone within 6, your Disruptive would prevent your Con Artists from benefiting from the enemy CE. They will still be able to be affected by your CEs however. On the flip side, your opponent's Disruptive will only prevent your Con Artists from benefiting from your CEs. It will not stop the Con Artists from benefiting from the chosen enemy CE.

Ok, what about range? Is range 6 another restriction that is ignored or do I have to be within 6 of them to get it?
What about CE's that grant Squad Firepower or something where you have to have 3 allies w/ the same name within 6 squares of you to get it?

Range doesn't matter with Con Artist.
As for squad effects, they should work, provided you had 4 characters with Con Artist and made all of them subject to that CE.

I love the absurdity already. " Hey, Jareal? You know when you wanted to learn to spit poison? Ol' buddy Marn just got you a blow gun and some green goo."

These guys are going to be a ton of fun to play. The possibilities are endless with these guys, and it will be interesting to see the absurd things they get when played. How would a CE for tempo control like dodonna's affect them if they chose to con artist it?

Ok that makes sense although seeing as the highest number of living characters that Marn could bring in with Bribery and give Con Artist to is 3, I don't see that coming up.

The question I have is, if it's a split CE do you get the entire thing or is it like the Yammosk where you can take Swap or Opportunist from Thrawn, but not both?

With this ability, Swap is a baaaad idea. Hopefully, it is either/or. You don't want Marn being swapped by the enemy into their clutches. Remember, you are still under their commander's control. So, that Momentum with GenSky means you need to be within 6 of him to gain the ability. Great for Jareal, but lousy for Marn.

I read the ability again, and it is worded similarly to Telepathic Insight so would seem you only get to pick one part.
This makes stealing squad abilities for the Con Artists a non-starter unless you are already running Gree/Darman/Skirata.
Nothing about Con Artist changes how squad abilities work.

You choose one effect. so with Thrawn its either swap or opportunist (but obviously never swap). Quote: Remember, you are still under their commander's control. Jareal and Marn would just get it.
