Not many...by my estimates MAYBE 3. Imperials definetly have the best options The big ones are probably Veers and Tarkin, maybe Palpatine (though probably not.) With Daala the Imperial Troopers. There are other playable pieces but they aren't going to tear up the meta (I still like Mara Jade and Obi-Wan)

Good: Grand Moff Tarkin can be swapped in at time with Pellaeon General Veers is still good Imperial Officer is as good as whoever you give the attack to Stormtrooper is a decent activation toss-in in many Imperial builds
There are major boosts for the following. I don't know if any of them are Tier 1, but it would worth trying: Ewok, Bespin Guard, Snowtrooper, Elite Snowtrooper, Scout Trooper on Speeder Bike
The Rebel Camaraderie pieces could possibly bring back some RS versions of the heroes. Plain Chewbacca has pretty good base stats, so if any of them are able to make a re-appearance, probably him.
So 4 yes and 7 maybe. I'll guess that 2 of the 7 make it, which gives me 6.

Veers, Tarkin, Lando maybe with the BGC, ewoks maybe for 3 point swarming, imp officer, and snow/storms, maybe RS Chewie with merumeru. 5 for sure and 3 maybe. So I'll put 5-10

Don't forget Stormtroopers. Decent swap fodder, and they have 23 Def in cover when used with GAThrawn. But still 1-5.

Was anything in Rebel Storm competitive immediately before the v-sets?
I think Veers has always been strong for his points, but he has more support options with the v-sets - maybe the same situation with Grand Moff Tarkin too. And the various Imperial troopers options are much better with commanders like Daala and Vader Agent of Evil around. Scout Trooper on Scout Bike with Weir as well. I voted 5-10, but without the v-sets, it might arguably be zero. Good job design team!

I went 1-5 without Vsets I came up with Obi Wan Kenobi, Palpatine, Veers, Tarkin, and Boba Fett

I'd peg the following as still useful and decent in today's game:
Obi-Wan Kenobi - Decent beatstick, Force Spirit Princess Leia, Senator - Great, if underused, CE Emperor Palpatine - Still a decent force battery, and more offensive than his immobile version Grand Moff Tarkin - Tempo Control General Veers - Great CE Sandtrooper on Dewback - Still one of the best Hp to cost ratios, making it a great meatshield for trooper squads Dengar Greedo 4-Lom - Still good, solid attackers for their cost Quarren Assassin - Decent attacker with Mobile Attack

It's funny - Veers had gone away for quite awhile - and really only Atris brought him back with Jason K's Echani Handmaiden squad.
I haven't seen excellent use of him in years outside that squad, and maybe storm commandos (but only after Weir came out).
Tarkin is so darn good. I can go on and on about just how good he is. I put in him in my regional winning Stealth N Blue (and Pellaeon too!) squad, and only swap him out for ozzel when I HAVE to. 3 activations at the top of a round is SICK (especially with Master Tactician!).
That being said - he didn't see much table time until Pellaeon. Due to the Ozzel option.
So it's an interesting case of V-sets bringing pieces back to life

The other piece noone's mentioned is Jabba the Hutt - until recently, he was the only piece with Fringe Reinforcements 30, and he made top 4 at a Regional in 2011 or 2012, I think.
And Twi'lek Bodyguard is a pretty good option in some circumstances too - Human Bodyguard is obviously stronger (+10 hp, can shoot) for 1 extra point, but if you don't have the spare point, the Twi'lek is all good.

I like old palps because he is weaker than palps on throne but can move which can be HUGE! I've started with old palps and swapped him when I needed to with pellaeon. Pellaeon brought like HALF of what's playable nowadays in RS playable. At least in Imperials.

Looking back at the pieces, my list would look like...
C-3PO, nice little annoyance piece R2-D2, the 1 pt discount is ideal if you are cramped for space Emperor Palpatine, less of a target than Palps on Throne General Veers, echo previous statements Grand Moff Tarkin, very underated. Probe Droid, nice cheap Recon Stormtrooper, bastion of the imperials. Though the Raxus Prime makes this a tougher decision than before Dengar, still love the stats 4-LOM, still viable when you can't pay for his higher cost, BH version Tusken Raider, I like the 5 Atk, 4 pts, and 20 potential dam Twi'lek Bodyguard, when you need a BG, and still want 3 more activations.
Now, the list has grown with various boosts brought on by Vsets.

The Twilek BG is still quite useful when the hit you're expecting to bodyguard would kill one of the other bodyguards anyway. This is most common now with Mace LotLS; Lobot can bring 2 Twilek BG and they can each absorb a crit, canceling a total of 120 Damage.

Also, the Twilek can be a BG brought in with Bribery. 10pts is the limit there.

The Vsets have only increased the inclusion of Rebel Storm pieces in meta squads. Like Tim, I include Tarkin in my box of Pellaeon swap possibilities because the Vsets have made all melee squads more viable and he can just devastate them. Like Flying Arrow said, the Twilek BG is a great addition to the toolbox with the advent of Bribery, although she was always a decent BG anyway. In short, the Vsets have given new life to older pieces despite the mid to latter set WotC power creep.

I haven't seen excellent use of him in years outside that squad, and maybe storm commandos (but only after Weir came out). Yeah, it is funny. I remember when Atris was first discussed on SHNN; I suggested Veers in the chat and Dean's comments were like "meh, that squad would be too squishy". (obviously that is a big concern, but...) Accurate Shot is one of the best SAs in the game, IMO. Just look at all the good Rebel squads built around Han over the years. I used Veers quite a bit back in the WotC days. As far as my list, it falls pretty close to Sithborg's. Also agree with EmperorDragon about Leia Senator's CE.
