I am hosting a Constructed event on June 13th and would like to have some kind of fun theme, so I thought I'd pose this question to the Bloo Milk community...
Have you ever played tourneys with fun/different themes? If so, please share and tell us how it went.

I don't know if this is what your talking about but we've tried a Bullrush kind of game.
it's pretty simple, to win you just have to have 2 figures touching the other end of the map at the end of a round.
it's kinda cool, just another different way to play.
ps: no diplomats.

Last Sunday we did a for-fun event: 150 points, no unique characters. Good old-fashioned armies of clones, stormtroopers, and the like. It was fun It was great to play matches where basic positioning and tactics were the whole deal instead of pulling off sick combos with high-powered pieces.

Greetings- below is a list of Theme/Special builds that I have put together for Tournaments and league play over the last 3 1/2 years playing SWM:
Hero Build: Choose One Unique (Iconic) Hero- and the rest of the squad must be no unique figs- ex(some of our favorites) Obi Wan, Chewbacca, Luke, Darth Maul- choose ANY version of and build a squad around them
Savage Beat Down Your squad MUST include 2 Savage Creatures- NO Empathy characters
Peasant Build NO Unique figures whatsoever
3 Giants Squad MUST contain 3 HUGE based figures
BIG RIG Variant Squad Must Contain 2 Huge RIDGID
Faction Pure- Choose any Faction, no fringe pieces
Fringe ONLY- same as above
Famous Pairs Squad MUST contain 2 UNIQUE Famous Pairs Luke and Yoda R2 & C-3PO Han & Chewie etc.. Dual based Characters count as the famous pair
Dream Squad- Build the absolute "Perfect" squad using WHATEVER Mini's you want- NO faction restrictions!
Count Down 200 points- (Usually played in 50-60 min) 35min, Play for most points killed
Reversal of Fortune Standard Squad build- EXCEPT 1 free Med Droid All Figures over 20HP- START with only 20HP; characters may heal up to their full HP if possible
"POINTS" Characters in the Squad may/may not be- over XXX or under XXX points Example: 150points Squad build may not have ANY character over 40 points
DYNAMIC DUO 100 points Exactly, 2 characters, faction rules, Only 100 DCI Legal Maps allowed. Terrific Trio Rules similar to Dynamic Duo Build a Squad of only 3 pieces up to 150 points DD Tiles
MADNESS! characters who roll a natural "20" against an Enemy receive 20 damage themselves Characters who roll " 1 " inflict criticals Lowest Int. wins choice etc...
Inferno! at the beginning of each Initiative phase, any character adjacent to, or occupying Low Object terrain (Green stuff) receives +10 Penetrating damage; save 11

If you go to the events section and look up events pertaining to Bellevue tournaments, we do all sorts of fun things. As an Example two weeks back we did a progressive style which was 100pts, then add 50pts, then add another 50pts, so that by round three you were playing 200 points... There is just loads of fun ideas...

I played this one style called capture the han. you take hansicle and place him in the center of the board. you then make a dynamic duo squad and try to get him back to the area you started at, but it has to be a four square area at the edge of the map. We played it where it was a 200pt dynamic duo so we could be creative with our teams but you could probably make it 150.

here's a few more ideas Joe: melee only or none lightsabers only or none force users only or none use a plain map, without any cover recreate a star wars battle, using only pieces used in the movie battle roll a d10 for a random faction only one commander allowed or none thanx for hosting! I'll see ya there Jak

I like the no melee idea, with 200 points. Where and when will it be at?

My friends and I made a variant/theme a while back that we've played a couple of times and had alot of fun with. We call it the Mount Tantiss Project. 1) 200 pt. Build of exactly 6 characters with no override pieces, Tempo (dodonna), or Reserves/Reinforcements allowed. 2) Pick a famous unique fig of your choice and you must use two incarnations of him (For Example Boba Merc and Boba BH). Tyranus counts as Dooku and vice versa 3) Whatever faction your clone is from is the faction you are restricted to. You may include Fringe characters in your squad, but the majority (4) of your characters have to be from your faction of choice. 4) If a clone is from two factions (Arica and Mara, Jedi) choose a faction to be your chosen faction. You can't use both NR and Imperial characters. 5) If your clones are Fringe characters, then all your characters must be Fringe characters.
All other basic rules apply. Rinse, repeat, enjoy.
Its made some pretty interesting combos, especially since you can mix incarnations from different factions and its alway fun when you get to use alot of the higher powered pieces without worrying about getting out activated. Plus, you get to use your favorite characters.

Here's one we've toyed with.
The Ultimate Booster
150-point squad, faction pure.
Squad must consist of EXACTLY:
* 1 Rare or Very Rare * 2 Uncommons * 4 Commons
Variant:
The Ultimate Huge Booster
As above, except increase the points to 200 and add one Huge figure.

Joe, there are some really great ideas here. I wish I could be there for this one, but unfortunately I'm going to be unavailable. Unless you want to hold it the following day (Sunday the 14th).
If not, perhaps I'll run one of these at my constructed that I'm planning to run late July/August.

So far I only have one person other than myself that will be attending. I cannot move it to Sunday as I have to work. I guess I'll see what happens, maybe it won't be a tournament and just a few guys playing random games and trying out a few themes if we can't get enough for a tournament (10 or so would do it)

I have no problem playing with small events, trust me I have played in PLENTY of them.
