Hey everyone, I want to invite all players to sign up for the annual Vassal Regional tournament. Saturday, July 11 (July 12 in NZ). Go to SWM General>>VASSAL and Online Play>>Vassal Regional 2015 - Saturday, July 11 to sign up and get more details. (darn BM won't let me insert a link to another BM page!)
We've chosen the date and time in conjunction with our friends in New Zealand, so hopefully many of them can join us too!

The title of this forum topic is a bit misleading if that is the case. I would have thought it was on June 27, which i won't be able to attend because like TimmerB123 I'll be in Wisconsin at the regional there

Lol...how in the galaxy did I type September in there? It's fixed now, thanks.
Bummer about the conflict with Wisconsin. I wanted to be sure that we could get the NZ guys out for this, and this was the date that worked best.

Really wish there was a day latter on in the year that we could have this, because I know that a few people other than myself that are going to the Wisconsin Regional would play in the Vassal regional also. Is it at all possible to try for another date? If not that's fine. I just would have really liked to participate in this years Vassal regional because I missed last years.

I would really try and figure out a new date. Since a lot of us will be at the WI regional that could play. I don't plan on playing but think this would be the best for all.

As far as timing goes, finding a date that allows the NZ guys to play is my top priority when planning this Regional. It's already virtually impossible to have the NZ guys join us at GenCon, so having them join us for the NZ Regional is the best we can realistically work for.
And then the Vassal Regional is already competing with the NZ National tournament and the 4th of July weekend in the USA. That leaves just two weekends in July, and one of them is immediately before GenCon, which would not have worked well for several of us. So I didn't really have many options to choose from at the start. The only other date that would've worked is July 11 (July 12 in NZ), but more people could make the June 26 date, so that's what I settled on.
So, unless there's an overwhelming number of North American players who can play on July 11 but not on June 26, I'm going to stick with the June date.

why not just have this event on the 27th but have a tournament in the fall thats called Vassal World championship? Then everyone can play vs them later on in the year.

Another Vassal tournament in the fall would be great, regardless. That is another issue though. I am disappointed I will not play in this, but I have to prioritize the real life tournament that I have attended for the past 5 years and always enjoyed. I support Trevor's decision (or any T.O. for that matter) to pick the date that gets the most players. Giving extra thought to a very active group in a drastically different time zone that we all want involved only makes sense. Looking at the calendar, we are left with few decent weekends due to an early GenCon. I realize why the date was chosen. I'm sorry if it seemed like I was complaining. I was just surprised at first since we have so few regionals now and none of them overlapped. Nobody else stepped up to pick a date earlier, so thank you Trevor for still making this happen, even if I cannot attend (so to speak)

Thanks Tim. Hopefully in the future we'll have more options available to us for scheduling the Vassal Regional. That is not a bad idea. A fall tournament would be great. Actually, the NZ guys already have an idea for a special tournament in the fall; details will be coming in due time. But in addition, I really like the idea of a Vassal World Championship...that's pretty sweet, and I'd be 100% in favor of that! I'd be willing to organize/run it if necessary, or else help out in any way that I can, if someone else would like to run it. We'll definitely need to get the full number of maps onto Vassal if we're going to make that happen, though.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Several of the NZ players have backed out from playing in the tournament this weekend. Therefore, we have CHANGED the DATE of the Regional, to Saturday July 11 (Sunday July 12 in NZ).
Reasons:
1. The primary reason for the original June date was that it worked best for the NZ guys. However, a number who originally said they could play at that time cannot play. So our original push for the June date is now pointless.
2. The June date conflicted with the Wisconsin Regional, and at least 3 people (that I know of) would like to play in the Vassal Regional but cannot because of the conflict on the date. So I hope that moving the Regional to July 11 will allow a bunch of those Wisconsin players to join us.
I should also make it known that I will start the event as judge/TO, but that I'll likely have to leave or drop before it is finished. I've spoken with Dr Daman and he has agreed to take over when I leave.
So please go and sign up!

Unfortunately I had made plans already for July 11th and won't be able to attend. I really would have liked to have gone to this! This is just kinda to short of notice to make any changes cause I have a lot of family coming over to visit me that day, so I need to spent time with them.
