You guys know how I like my subfactions.
The mission: pick a subfaction of your choice and make something that can really give it a boost or maybe put it over the edge from being Meh to yeah. Could be a hero could be a support piece or a remake of a current piece.
Good luck all

Rules
1. The character must be canon and from the chosen faction when required. They can have affinity, but the character must start in the chosen faction. EDIT: Since Canon is all screwed up, just a known character is fine.

2. You may update any existing versions you already have and/or create a new one. You may update/create several versions of the character but you must ultimately select 1 you wish to run with. (this must be done by the schedule below)

3. Place a hyperlink in this forum to make it easier to find your character. You can just post the stats or image here but if changes are needed it would be easier (and save space) if you just used a Hyperlink (If you don't know how to post Hyperlinks in a forum setting please ask and we will help you. It's not hard )

4. Voting works as follows, pick your three favorite customs based on accuracy to the character, design, balance or whatever you decide makes the best incarnation of the challenge character. First place receives 3 points, 2nd place receives 2 points, and 3rd place receives 1 point.

6. To make things fair you must vote in order to win the contest. You must choose three characters entered in the contest and you may not rate or vote for your own character.

7.. The winner will be decided by how many points they receive. Ties will be broken by most 1st place votes, then if still tied, 2nd place votes and then 3rd place votes. If still tied, then the outcome is a tie.

8. you may not change or update the entered character AFTER the deadline (from Tuesday-Thursday you may get advice and change your character accordingly) Friday at midnight [US central -600] before any votes are cast is the deadline.

The schedule will be like this: Monday the winner of last weeks CCC will announce his/her choice for the character (including the faction), from Tuesday till Friday characters can be created/updated but on Friday you must have picked one character to submit. Then voting will be held on Saturday, Sunday and Monday until noon [US central -600]. Monday night the winner will be announced and the next character picked.

Here's mine.

As I think I proved a few weeks ago in the "Imperial Commander" contest, I'm not very good at creating Commander effects, so any help with that would be greatly appreciated!

And just any feedback in general would be great!

Well, donny says he likes sub-factions; last time I looked, I've made 15 subfactions, so I'm good with that. Three of my sub-factions, Fringers, Spacer's, and the Outer Rim, have 45 characters between them. I made this card up aboot 5 years ago. Since "legal" cards don't have Spacer or Outer Rim names, I changed the names to something more workable.

Ok, where to begin ... Do you really need the SA "Squad Member" ability since his name contains the word Squad? You also have "Willing To Serve" so I'm not sure but isn't all this an overlap?

I'm not a fan of giving out abilities a character itself doesn't have (Intuition.) Also, "Adjacent gains Twin - does that mean they lose Twin if not adjacent? Gain it for skirmish/round? Ambiguous.

Finally, since 967 was a Commando unit, you could've saved naming the SA Galactic Alliance but just calling it Galactic Alliance 967 Squad Leader (Uses Squad and GA - I'm all about saving card space BigGrin )

Nice contest Donny!

I've been waiting to bring this back up - the Senate Commandos' plight is one of my favorite soapboxes.

http://www.bloomilk.com/Custom/25565/senate-commando-strike-leader

Gives the Senate Commandos some needed mobility as well as ranged protection, but giving Mobile instead of Greater Mobile keeps them from being too epic. Since Padme already gives out Mobile, I was considering changing it for something else - perhaps a death shot (or something new) to protect against Swap Squads?

Squad Member let him gain Squad abilities and count as having the same name as allies for the purpose of Squad abilities.

No ambiguity there. It's no different from Whorm's CE - just that it's for adjacent allies instead of allies within 6 squares. They would lose Twin if not adjacent.

The Galactic Alliance SA lets this character qualify for any CEs or Special Abilities that affect only Galactic Alliance characters (such as those on Darth Caedus, Sith Lord).

1. Squad vs Squad Member - ok, I can see that.

2. I've never used Whorm - if its understood from that, I'm Good ....

3. Is there a difference in the SA Galactic Alliance vs having Galactic Alliance in the name? I thought that THAT was understood?

This is what I came up with. With better access to CE's the Acolytes actually become a solid group of attackers. Stealth allows them a better chance to get into battle so they can actually do something productive instead of being cannon fodder.

You're right, but the way he did it matches the existing 967 Commando. He could have changed it though.

I'm thinking about changing rapport to just GenoHaradans, or removing it. Any opinions?

Surf, I need some clarity on your rapport. Do they have to all be Thugs to gain it or is there a missing adjustment to the order of recipients and a comma? If he is in a faction other than just fringe, does the Rapport impact Non-uniques from within the chosen squad faction?

Currently the way I read it, it sounds like:
If you are a Non-unique "Thug", you cost 2 less
If you are a "Fringer" "Thug", you cost 2 less
If you are a "Scoundrel" "Thug", you cost 2 less
If you are a Fringe "Thug", you cost 2 less

The CE is very clear.

Overall, I like the piece. I like that it is a cheaper alternative to Talon. I can see the lack of CE cost evaluation in the spread sheet you use for costing as well. I see your costing trick now. Speed 4 and Melee attack and 4 abilities keep you under the thresholds. Cleaver. I think it would take some game testing and squad building to see how far you could push the limits of the CE and Rapport with current known pieces but for the current time without testing I like 16 points. Nice work.

The vagaries of being a solo operation as such; translation, I'm an idiot because I changed certain things and didn't change others from the original 2011 card. Its cleaned up now (Hopefully.) If its Still vague, let me know.

PS - I said "Fringe Thugs" to differentiate from the Red Hand Separatist Thug; stick to Fringe Thugs BigGrin

Regarding the Excel experiment ....

Yes, certain "Thresholds" need to be kept to if you're aiming for certain costs.

Regarding my "test costing" of your piece, I'm wondering, after using your Excel, with you adjusting the low end costing on certain stats, if the low costing pieces will now come out skewed because you've eliminated the low "base" they had?

I'm confused on what Sub-Faction some of this week's pieces belong to.
could you guys tell me what Sub-Faction you are going for.

the only ones obvious to me are mine and the other NightSister.

Mine are Fringe characters named Fringer, Scoundrel and Thugs (Not the Sep Red Hand Thug.) These are pieces that other than seen as proxies, never get played because they're not worth it; my piece attempts to cut costs and add Attack and Defense pts. plus some SA's to make them more viable ... hopefully ....
