Anyone who has played since a Clone Strike remembers a time when Destroyer Droids and their shields were actually a threat to be reckoned with. As time went on and damage increased, shields were disrupted, and small sand-dwelling creatures ran rampant with ion guns; the dreaded destroyer sank to less than stellar levels. The Vsets came out with series 2 destroyer droid which was good for a time but now has been eclipsed by the same things that obsoleted its predecessors. It's pretty bad when the best version of the ultimate combat droid that makes even Jedis run is best represented by the Zann consortium model that can't even be in a separatist squad. So my challenge to you is to come out with some sort of boost, remake or way to put the fear back into those Jedi eyes and make any or all of the destroyer droids good again.

Rules

1. The character must be canon and from the chosen faction when required. They can have affinity, but the character must start in the chosen faction. EDIT: Since Canon is all screwed up, just a known character is fine.

2. You may update any existing versions you already have and/or create a new one. You may update/create several versions of the character but you must ultimately select 1 you wish to run with. (this must be done by the schedule below)

3. Place a hyperlink in this forum to make it easier to find your character. You can just post the stats or image here but if changes are needed it would be easier (and save space) if you just used a Hyperlink (If you don't know how to post Hyperlinks in a forum setting please ask and we will help you. It's not hard )

4. Voting works as follows, pick your three favorite customs based on accuracy to the character, design, balance or whatever you decide makes the best incarnation of the challenge character. First place receives 3 points, 2nd place receives 2 points, and 3rd place receives 1 point.

6. To make things fair you must vote in order to win the contest. You must choose three characters entered in the contest and you may not rate or vote for your own character.

7.. The winner will be decided by how many points they receive. Ties will be broken by most 1st place votes, then if still tied, 2nd place votes and then 3rd place votes. If still tied, then the outcome is a tie.

8. you may not change or update the entered character AFTER the deadline.

You will have until Friday, Sep 23rd, 2016 @8pm EST to get your submissions in. Anything submitted after this point will not be included in the voting.

Voting will start at 8pm on Friday evening and end at 12 noon EST on Monday, Sep 26th, 2016.

At the conclusion of the voting the scores will be tallied and the Winner will then post the next round

Droids?
did somebody say... droids? BigGrin
one for the CIS players, hehe.

I can't take credit entirely for these - the locals helped make them, and Phil completed the cards.

Above: droideka, P-series.
note shield X allows per 10 dmg recieved roll a save 11,
and wheel-form precludes being able to use shields until end of turn, not end of round. BigGrin

In the right conditions,
the above P Series droideka can deal ~240dmg in one turn, via
twin attack in conjunction with blaster barrage, or more with
double attack from a commander, and a gonk droid...

this 23pt killer can mop up filler,
it is highly mobile, does area denial,
but will not standup to ion fire,
rockets and jedi, for very long. BigGrin

or, perhaps you prefer your DD flying?

Above: Aerial Droideka.
a flimsy sorta turret.
a heavy variant had 30DMG and Heavy weapon or Emplacement in playtesting,
but that was abusive even with fragile 40.

if you thought lancers were bad,
you ain't seen nothing yet!
A DD that can move quite quickly
with no penalty to shields...
speed 6 default,
but, with less damage output potential,
and an atrocious cost-to-kill ratio.
secure that gambit in style,
flank attack and know
that flying DD has your back.

a variant in playtesting had 40DMG, Heavy Weapon
and Refractor Shield X (for every 10DMG, roll 11. on success, each enemy within 2 squares takes 10DMG as though from a non-melee attack source...)
it was too brutal and 'complicated' BigGrin

If I can only enter one,
Destroyer Droid P Series is the entry BigGrin

We're also still working on
the grapple droideka,
mega droideka
and sniper droideka... BigGrin

Nice! How does shields X work? You get a roll per each 10 damage?

@gen griev -
yup, you got it in one! BigGrin
whenever you take damage, crucially 'from any source',
(nb; adj, non-adj, melee, non-melee... direct dmg from missiles, force powers...)
you may roll a save 11 per 10DMG incoming...
prevent 10DMG per successful save, stop process on fail.

I think in the glossary for Shields, it says adj attacks with lightsaber ignore shields,
and that's what Shields X does too.
Adj attacks with a lightsaber ignore shields X.
Lightsaber Throw, Lightsaber Pike/lightwhips etc just became more useful...

Refractor Shields X though, this one's even MORE broken.
for every 10DMG from a non-adj source, roll 11.
enemies within 2 squares take 10DMG instead, as though from a non-adj. source...
brutal huh? BigGrin
stop process on fail.

take that, AoE weapons and Vong!
I don't need the force anymore...

it's also self-balancing;
"come here, DD with Refractor Shields X wants to give you a big hug..."
balances against increased chance of attacks,
and lightsabers which defeat the shielding etc...
which synergizes with Fragile hehe.
