So, I was thinking about this the other day... if I wanted to tell someone the greatest Artist of all-time, I could say 'Beatles', 'Michael', 'Queen'...etc, Tennis I could say Federer, Golf, Tiger... Basketball, Jordan or whoever...
...but when it comes to SWM - who are the best in the world? Being here in lil' ol NZ, it's difficult to know. I see some names pop up from time to time... but can you, the SWM populace, tell me: who are the best SWM players in the World?!

I think you can go to the DCI website and look up the names of the people ranked in the top 10 of SWM in the world.

Here you go so you can search for yourself http://webapp.wizards.com/ratings.aspx?brandid=32I will say that these are the players from DCI ranked matches. I'm sure there are tons of casual players that could probably play a mean game.

I will answer your question for you it seems no one actually wanted to answer that. There are some guys out there that if you gave them a terrible squad would still rock your world. I will name a few but understand I am not leaving anyone off on purpose I just maybe drawing a temporary blank. Deri Morgan (Finger&teeth) always been an awesome player. Very tactically sound proved it this year by winning Gencon. Bill Russell (Billiv15) Gencon champ in 2008 and 2nd this year first player to ever attempt to defend his title at Gencon and came away with a good showing. Padraig (I Kill Gungans) off the radar for a while due to his university studies in Germany. The first person to widely hail the importance of San Hill back in the day. Tactically sound and when you beat him you will feel drained. Has won the German champs. Gren/EIn elf on the boards his real name escapes me at the moment. Another German Champ who regularly plays with IKG. Tough opponent. Aaron Brueckman (Lobostele) Is a top 8 virtual lock at Gencon every year. This year suffered the undefeated kiss of death and got knocked out in the first round of the top 8. Yes going undefeated in the first 7 rounds of swiss has proven to be a kiss of death every year. It may just be too much to expect anyone to go 10-0. So there is a quick list of the best in the world.

Matt Hansen won his regional and the Jedi Challenge in 08. 3rd in the Jedi Challenge in 09. Matt Peterson went 7-0 in the reg champs in 08 and made the top 8 in 08,07,06 James Naegele won the cinni regional and overall sound player Frank Baker made the top 8 this year and is a strong overall player Wedge Smith won the Texas regional and if you ever play him and win you will be sweating after the game. Tim Ballard- got 9th in 09 and 10th in 07,He won the Jedi Challenge in 09, and won his regional. He loves activations.
and Dean Miller- I dont know why he is on the list must of been a mistake top player in DCI and is the most sound player around
So of the players that are in the top 20 only play there local group a lot and thats why they are in top. They might be good players but just because someone is rated high in DCi doesnt mean they are the greatest out there. Its about your rating and WHO you play against. If you just play locally and never play the top players how can you be called a top player aka top 20 in DCI.

Wow guys - that is totally awesome. I've seen a bunch of these names and its great to be able to discuss things with them on this site and see some of them on Vassal etc. My SWM claim to fame is that I was beaten 100-0 in just under 15 minutes on Vassal by Billiv15. Wow.

Shawn Large (#17 on that list in the U.S.) went 25-0 at comicon this year, and he didn't even have any of his pieces, he used what was given to him.

I would toss in the Olivet crew as well (Lou, James, Jake, etc). Great players, and great fun to play.

I appreciate being mentioned. I do better in the limited rankings, because I am out to win at releases for the prize support. I suffer in the constructed rankings, because I always like to try out new ideas at the LGS, they are my test group. James is right about Wedge, he doesn't give you anything! If you beat him you have accomplished something spectacular. DB
