Ok guys, I don't have prizes, but I still think it would be cool to have a little contest. Looking at the DotF custom thread gave me an idea. We should go through and vote on each figure for the "best" and accumulate a best of DotF list, with their corresponding pictures. We could do a community vote, or we can simply have a committee of 3 look at them and decide. Anyone interested in taking this on, organizing it, setting it up, and running it to completion? I'd be willing to take the copy of the final full set and post it up on Gamers mainpage for future reference, with each person's name attached to it.

Why not up the odds, Bill? How about the best customs get to become the icons for the Vassal Module?

Oh and I am in. I know mine aren't great but if I can at least get 1, I will have enough of an ego. It's hard to compete against all of these men and women.

Hmm, definitely like the idea. I'll have to check with Trevor, but I will see him in a few days to ask him about the Vassal mod idea :).

As for the thinking, I'm leaning towards a committee of 3 to 5 people. Committee members would be allowed to have their figure voted on, but they cannot vote for their own or argue for it. So far I have myself (totally willing to remove myself if 5 other people really want to take this on and run with it - I'd like to see it happen for each set), Dimetron and Markedman as 3 committee members. Anyone else want in on the choosing of the communities best?

Just some further ideas for the committee. I think the following ways of choosing should come into play.
1. Likeness - how much does it look like the character
2. Creativity - pretty obvious what this means
3. Originality
4. Degree of difficulty
5. Overall appearance
6. Creator of multiple minis (I'd like as a minor note, to have as many good customs as possible chosen by a wide range of customizers. Obviously some people will have more than 1 and likely many chosen, but when possible, give a few points to the next guy if its his/her best one, darn close and would allow another person to win).

I don't think Originality really applies as it's own category here - it's basically covered to varying degrees in 1,2,5, and 6 (when considering customs that use the same base figure, 6 would decide which one gets the nod).

I think it would be awesome if these iconic images could also become the official images on bloomilk... and maybe someone could even photoshop together a set poster!

If there's any way I can help contribute to the voting, I'd be happy to. I don't know what the qualifications are for becoming a voting member, but I have a love of the Star Wars universe that goes back to 1977 and knowledge about almost every corner of it. I haven't made any minis myself, so I wouldn't be biased. :) (Which knocks me right out of contention if you're looking for skilled modders to judge rather than "just folk").

It's just basic guidelines, but I do agree that Originality is made up of the majority of those listed categories. But that is also perspective. It depends on how the categories are defined in full.

If we decide on a Committee and I am in fact part of it, I say myself and the other Judges work on the outline of these ruling categories first and foremost. That way we have something set in stone to work off of when discussing it all.

I have actually been wanting to do this for a long time. Im not quite sure what what you mean by a comitte member but ill do it! And one thing that I think would be really cool to do is maybe the winner gets to design stats for someone in a future V-set! I have always wanted to do that, I probably dont win but in my book it would be a GREAT attractionThumbsUp! Im in!

Darthbane and Gwek you are both in. Qualifications are that I know you are an active member, and you have enthusiasm about the contest (so it won't die in two weeks without me bothering people to do what they volunteered for :)). As for originality as a category, I don't care if it really is. I simply wanted to make sure people looked at this aspect specifically. Here's what I was thinking. Maybe the best looking custom for a given mini is a simple repaint, but another person made theirs from scratch and it's a darn close second. This category could be used to justify a bump to the top perhaps. All told, I don't think we need a system (like points or some such) simply a list of the types of things we will look at. With that said, we have a committee of 5 now, unless someone else wants to jump in and take my place (which I am totally fine with mind you as I am very busy with other stuff). Maybe one of you could volunteer to become the head of the custom committee as well :)

Yea! You are in, and I am out. Now talk amongst yourselves about organizing this and I suggest selecting a chair for the committee :)

creme_brule

It might be a good idea if we use a chat program of some sort.

AIM, Skype, Ventrilo, or something of that nature. What do we all have or know how to use? haha

I don't know if I have anything... I had Skype on my computer, but haven't used it for a loooong time! If I "chat" it's usually on facebook (and not often). I'm open to something, though, if everyone else is cool with it.

It's not quite as direct as something like Skype, but I've used ProBoards forums for a number of projects. If we wanted to do something like that, we could either start our own, or ask the fine folk at the SWM Customs database to open up a (private?) section for us.

I use Skype, that's the best choice probably. I suggest you all get it. You can find me under either William Russell or Billiv15

Alternately, as long as we are all friends, a facebook group could work.

That would be a cool idea, and that way we can keep track of what we've talked about. However, it would be considerably slower since its not IM.
