Lak would match well with Flobi or Jedi Exile where he can get an extra attack. There are a number of Cunning Attack options for reinforcements, but they mostly come with some sort of tech, too. Accurate Shot or Snare Rifle or Infrared Vision. Lak is more of a pure offense option. With built-in Twin Attack, he has one of the highest built-in damage potential for a Cunning reinforcement option. (And the other one - Whiphid Tracker - requires standing still while adjacent to reach 40dmg.) Most of the other options can get Twin from a Czerka and match his damage pretty easily, but with Twin built-in, he doesn't need the Czerka.

I'm not sure how the Chiss Fleet Officer will play out. Limiting to 2 characters just means you can't do an activation dump. You can still probably get whatever you need to counter an opponent's squad. Tacticians are available in most factions already, but the CFO is a decent offense option (assuming he gets an attack boost somewhere). Not great, but you aren't sacrificing points just for Tactician - you're getting a minor attacker with it, too.

Thursday's preview:

Quote:
Keeper of the Whills
Fringe
38/45
Cost 15

HP:--
Def: --
Atk: --
Dam: --

Special Abilities
Unique

Journal of the Whills [Ignores characters and terrain. Cannot open doors. Cannot attack or be damaged, and does not count as a legal target, the nearest enemy, or adjacent. Not subject to commander effects. Does not provide cover. At the start of the skirmish, choose a Unique ally whose name contains Skywalker, Leia, or Vader. That character is considered to be within range of allies’ commander effects, and its own commander effects have unlimited range. Also choose Disciplined Leader or Willing to Serve. For the rest of the skirmish, the chosen character gains the chosen ability. When that character is defeated, this character chooses another Unique ally whose name contains Skywalker, Leia, or Vader. Any "at the start of the skirmish" instances are immediately resolved. This character is defeated when there are no more such characters to choose.]

The Whills kept a collection of stories, called the Journal of the Whills, that chronicled the history of the galaxy.

Friday's preview:
Quote:
Lando Calrissian, Infiltrator
Rebel 19/45
Cost: 21

HP: 70
Def: 18
Atk: +10
Dmg: 20

Special Abilities
Unique. Melee Attack; Double Attack
Greater Mobile Attack

Rapport [A character named Leia, Bounty Hunter or Princess Leia, Captive costs 3 less when in the same squad as this character]

Specialization [Unique Rebel allies gain Greater Mobile Attack. Ignore this ability if any ally counts as having the same name as another ally.]

Stealth [If this character has cover, he does not count as the nearest enemy for an attacker farther than 6 squares when choosing targets]

Commander Effect
If your squad contains Han Solo in Carbonite, an ally named Leia, Bounty Hunter gains Speed 8. After setup, choose an unoccupied square up to 4 squares (ignore walls when counting) from Han Solo in Carbonite, or 8 squares if your squad contains characters whose names contain Chewbacca, Leia, and Luke. You may place Han Solo in Carbonite in the chosen square.

And the last preview! But in just a few days the whole set will be released.

darth Vader of lothal and sid mastermind seem to be pretty powerful.
vader going to 26 base defense, 30 in cover. he only costs 35 and would be able to surprise attack every round due to being able to use sids force points. leaves 65 to build with. seems interesting that a than 35 point piece would be so powerful. but I guess there is no other way to build from there.

The Rival really is the key on Vader of Lothal. With no Pellaeon/Thrawn/Daala, there is no power piece in a Vader of Lothal squad - other than Vader himself. But, yeah, I think Vader/Palpatine will be a pretty serious threat.

I like how casually a 100-point Fringe beatstick just casually walked in there. One of my favorite pieces of the set, I think. That CE is killer.

5 strongest pieces (IMO):

Warb Null - he's a tank against shooters with Damage Reduction and Vergere's Crab Armor on a 2 with Shii-Cho

Amanoa - ranged defense and a counter to out-act and smash means she'll fit into a lot of tournament Sith builds.

Rebels in general - Artoo is very good, Han's the big shooter from the set, Lando's GMA is very good in some squads, and Son of Skywalker could have an impact. I don't know if they necessarily all fit together perfectly, but there are some good squads out there using some of them at a time.

Vader of Lothal - new tournament level squad base. Him and 100 point Palps are a handful.

Bib Fortuna - another new squad base. Not sure if it's quite tournament level, but it performed well in playtesting. You can pull of some pretty neat movement tricks.

Really great set. I'm a fan of the new r2 and 3po. This is a little more in line with how I'd hoped to see "Hero of the Rebellion" version of them them built in the WOTC days.

Special shout out for the Towani twins, Bright tree ewok, and Marauder. I'm pretty stoked about these ones. The Towani's will make a nice addition to my already epic ewok squad. Now to just figure out what to use to make customs.

100 point Palpatine or force battery chair emperor and Revan are going to be good friends.
It's nice to see the Hutts come into full force this time around. Some other cool surprises were the Chiss/Jagged Fel combo, the boost for huges, Hapans, Dovin Basil keeper and the Mandalorian Knight. Nice to see the spread of representation going on and new sub factions this set.

Only complaint: Ewoks movie characters??? Really? Hahaha

I think the most important piece that is being overlooked is the XT-6. This piece in combo with Amanoa is going to crush the popular style of "out-act and smash" as TheHutts called it. Although it doesn't really hurt the double swap Boba too much since the ImpGov will allow Boba to at least fire. That matchup is pretty mind boggling.

Maybe V12 will have pieces that are total garbage attackers but can change sides very easily to sabotage Amanoa.

oh the wicked web we weave. Laugh

I look forward to making NR squads or Sith squads with new BenSky and try to double pull across Barriss BigGrin

Great set!!!

Ben Skywalker can't get into Sith. Camaraderie only grants its bonus after you are in the squad. Ben needs Galactic Alliance before he is in the squad to be able to get into a Sith squad.

Han and Threepio were probably the two biggest pieces that hadn't been revealed yet. (And Revan, of course, though his name had been revealed already.)

No apologies. I went back through all of the previous request threads to find out what character(s) have been repeatedly requested for the most consecutive sets. (Ignoring lists where people put down 20 or 30 or more names.) The answer was adamb0nd's request for the Towanis and the ewok movie pieces. It was at the top of his very short list for every set since set 5 or something like that. As an added bonus, it fit in with the theme of our set (Long Time Ago).

you'd better be careful, or people will start to think the deisgn team actually cares about what those in the community want!!Flapper javascript:insertsmiley('Flapper ','/Forums/images/emoticons/msp_flapper.gif')

Haha, honestly, the release of ewok film characters was the only thing that got me pumped enough about this v-set to contribute. I've been putting my time and effort into X-Wing lately. It's resparked my interest Razz

Something I will remember for a long time was a V11 playtest with the Towani's in which Matt Spry (spryguy1981) was using his Towani lead Ewok squad and I was using a sith squad. Long story short....Mace Towani took out Darth Revan, SL. Might have to name a squad after him now. Little Mace in the Face. Tongue

That fact that you can put a beat stick like Revan in any faction is insane. If I don't see a lot of builds revolved around him I'll be surprised.
