So Scum & Villainy has been out for a little while now and will soon be up on Bloomilk (I Hope). What are the big changes that will come from this set? Will there be new top tier squads for everyone to try and match? What are the combo's that has everyone excited?

Discuss!

I've done a good amount of thinking on this. This is the top tier tourney meta as I see it as of now. I'll update this later on if something else shines through

Old Republic:
Satele Shan, Atton, Carth, Bastilla, OR Senetor + Support

Satele puts out good damage and can even keep Carth "I die after I do anything" Onasi alive via BG. Her Parry helps a lot vs melee too.

Sith:
Revan, Atton, Kaan, GARY, support

Was good last season, it's still good now. Revan + Atton weaken stuff down in time to swap in Kaan to Thought Bomb ftw.

Seps:
HK-47 (or GGHoH), IG-88a, IG-88 Assassin + support.

Brings really tough Droids to take down and you can either go HK-47 for Disruptive and defense or GG for tough anti Jedi. Seps help fill it out due to really cheap support figures and access to the Commando droids who would work really well with these guys as filler. IG-88a and all his buddies can really be ran effectively in any faction. I think seps give them the most options though so I put them here.

Republic:
Mace/GOWK + filler

Was tough last year, will still be tough. And it won Gencon so it'll stay popular.

Naboo Deathshots.

Same as Mace/Gowk

Zam Wessel, Tarpals + Support.

this one is new, Zam can do 60 auto damage to anyone on the right map. That's pretty dang strong, and on Cantina its really hard to advance and not be either in cover or next to it. Still need to figure out how to fill this squad out.

Imperials:
Black and Blue of various kinds still rule the day here. Although Weir is a nice secondary option for them.

Rebels:

Smuggler Cannon

Yep, still good after 4 years. Has a lot more rough matchups now though that have really killed its popularity.

Han Solo STA, Dutch, Klat Cap, Red Ace's + Support

Tough squad thats really strong vs Melee. Red Ace's put out a ton of damage and its hard to keep track of everywhere they can get to seeing as they can move 16 squares to base guys.

There may be something good with new Han and Leia but I havent found it yet.

New Republic:

Anakin Solo, GH + anyone with a lightsaber

Anakin gives lightsaber weilders Assualt, Renewal 1, and Lightsaber Defense. The list of options is really long. I do like Silri with him though. Unstoppable assaults seem pretty good.

Mara Jade + Ganner + .....anything really.

Dont fall asleep on this squad. People have forgotten how to play against it. With Mace being so popular last year his Force Absorb really hurt Mara's effectiveness. A whole bunch of new squads are coming out that may push Mace's playtime down. If that happens look for Mara to become a pain in the neck again.

Corran Horn + Shooter

Corran Horn is an awesome beatstick, with really any kind of decent shooter support he can be a nasty booger to take out.

Vong:

Nom Bombs + Cad Bane

Still annoying, still pretty decent. I don't really like Vong at all so I'm a bad one to ask about them.

Mandalorians

Fenn Shysa, Mandalorian Protectors, Mando Captain + support

Think death shots are annoying? BG shots are even better. If your not shooting from stealth of setting up your pieces correctly to counter it Fenn and Protectors can really put a hurt on you. Melee teams beware the Mandos.

Mandalore the Vindicated + support

MtV is a really nice piece. Good damage, good defense, disruptive, good CE. All for a decent price too. It may be a set or two before he gets enough support that meshes with him but he will be good for a long long time.

That's how I see it going currently anyway. This is based off my own playtests of the meta.

I like how the Ig88 squads really slow down Mace's damage. 1 crit only gives him 80 Dam, which could be reduced down to 40 thanks to Shields. A little rougher against Gen. Skywalker Mace squads, but that's why you pack HK. Doesn't necessarily even need Whorm.

I do like the Bodyguard shots. Very interesting options, and that they can reduce the damage they absorb is handy. Of course, the ultimate is Bodyguard/Death Shots.

Ive been working on a squad that i think might be pretty solid with IG-88A, the Hk-47 and IG-88 Assassin Droids with Doombot and a bunch of 28 defense in cover mouse droids.

As for the Zam/Tarpals squads, I plan on trying out Bossk TH (Stun Morter x2) and Darman (grenades 40). They both can have some decent survivability too and with movement breakers to spare they could be pretty annoying.

Big, intelligent list.

Looks solid to me - I'm posting it on the NZ group's Facebook page so everyone sees it. I'm looking forward to trying out the Protectors!

Thanks, Weeks. Do you think all of those squads are capable of winning Gencon? Or are they just the best options for the respective factions?

I like Charging Aces, but Disruptive hurts it pretty badly and Bastila leaves it gasping for air.

I noticed Whorm (of any variety) didn't make the cut. Was that on purpose?

An oversight. Add whorm, BDO, ig-86 to above.

Still think there's room for the single lancer. In fact, maybe more room than last year. Graham won a regional with it last year, despite naboo and other lancer hate. I think run by an excellent player it would have done well at Gen Con too. You can never count it out.

I also think that IG-88 squads can go in other factions besides the seps. There are lots of good spots. I almost think that seps is the worst spot for them.

I left it off due to the fact that outside of a very small amount of players no one has had great continued success with it. I went for the more broad approach. Doesn't mean I think Lancer isn't very good, just means I don't think a lot of people could play it and be successful with it.

Actually I agree with you. I think most people are surprised how hard it is to play, but it is quite potent. That being said, I wouldn't count out a very good player (other than myself and Graham who have already had the most success with it) pulling it out and showing that someone else can do it too.

Meh, there's also a lot of people who just despise the lancer so they never play it (speaking of myself here lol). But I certainly could. I see no reason to leave it off the list.

I also see no reason to leave off Kybuck. Or is it simply because I was the only one playing it at Gencon?

Yep, pretty much. No one really played him at regionals and if they did they didnt do well. you were the only one that did decently with him so thats why he isnt there.
