With Marn, the camaraderie has activated upon reveal.
With Palleaon and versatility the effects are delayed until after set up.
I guess these are just things to remember for now until its solidified.
I think a better way to think about it is that you get the Camaraderie bonus for being "in the squad" even if you are defeated. But you don't get the bonus if the character with Camaraderie is not "in the squad". Defeated characters still count as being in the squad. Characters removed via Pellaeon/Versatility do not count as being "in the squad". So you can think of the characters as gaining their Camaraderie bonus right away, but if you remove the character via Versatility/Pellaeon you lose the bonus.
Analogous to commander effects...
CE: You gain the bonus as long as the commander is on the board. You lose the bonus when the commander is defeated.
Camaraderie: You gain the bonus as long as the character is in the squad. You lose the bonus if the character leaves the squad. (Defeated characters still count as "in the squad". Versatility/Pellaeon/Betrayal = not in the squad.)
