Winning is cool, having fun is cooler.

Sort of both, for me. I like to try different squads, but if a squad works--not necessarily wins--I'll play it repeatedly to get myself used to it.
Hmm... as much as I like to use different combos, I am probably a 'play for the win' player. I certainly don't come to a regular skirmish planning to lose with a few random characters that were in a movie scene together.

I voted for the fun. But I'm really a mix of the two:
I play for the kill. Squads proven to win only I play with more creative squads and hope to win
It's fun to play with more creative squads, figures I haven't used before, try to make something out of bad figures, or a theme (as goofy as it might be). But whatever team I build, I'm going to play to win.
Depending on the skills of the opponents at the weekly league, I'll vary the severity of my 'meanness.' -- I'll try to help the younger players with options they can do then let them pick what they think is best or give them post-game suggestions; seeing them get better is rewarding. -- Against more skilled players, well, I'm gonna destroy them. Or try to. :>) They're doing the same in return, so that's fun too.
