It's kinda funny we moved into the realm of German. I lived there for six years, and my wife taught me more slang than proper German.

While it is technically a rule, more people are getting lazier in their speech. I see sentences beginning with conjunctions all the time. It is unfortunate, but it is fast becoming the norm I fear.

I don't think I've ever seen actual "spam" here, which frankly is a bit surprising.
Either this forum software has a very narrow market share, which I could believe, or something about Shinja's install of it is probably unusual. Most spamming stuff is automated, and goes after default installs of popular forum software. Tweak the right aspect of your install from the norm just a little and you potentially keep the spambots from seeing your forum as a valid target.

I forgot to add that sentences should never be started with "because," save for the whole clause exception. Actually, there are a lot of things a sentence isn't supposed to start with, but that doesn't stop people from doing it. Misuse of adverbs kills me, too. When the weather is bad, you drive slow ly, not slow. Those road signs that say "Caution drive slow" always make me want to get out and spray paint an "ly" at the end of "slow." You can't forget about "or" and "nor," either. I see people using "or" all the time when they should use "nor;" "nor" is used in conjunction with "not" or "neither." E.g.: I am neither French, nor German. E.g.: You should not drink sour milk, nor should you eat lead paint. I had to laugh today when I picked up my high school graduation cap and gown: on the tag in the gown, printed with the quotation marks, was "Do not wash or dry clean." Maybe I'm wrong here (someone please correct me if I am), but I think that "or" should be a "nor," because right now the tag is telling me I can't wash it, but I can dry clean it. Anyway, who the heck makes clothes that you can't physically wash? swinfield wrote:I'm not sure why you feel this should be locked, but I believe it should be moved to Off-Topic at this point as it has gathered quite a few responses. Um, this is the Off-Topic thread. I don't know why anybody would be worried about the thread locking; none of this is spam because it's in the Off-Topic thread. Third, I'm curious now about this "Spanish fishing policy." Is it like those dumb laws that we have in the U.S., like how it's illegal to cross the border between Minnesota and Wisconsin with a duck on your head?

Um, it was in the General forum until I moved it to Off-Topic. I would also recommend that members proofread after manually editing quoted posts. I'm fairly certain there is no user on Bloomilk named swinfield.

Wow... not even the providers speak English anymore (of course, most of those customer service calling centers are outsourced anyway ).

"Ur" can only be misused as your if you intend the pronunciation of your to sound like "yer", which is also crap English, lol.

People get mixed up between "Fraction" and "Faction" sometimes. ie "This is a great addition to the Mandalorian Fraction!"

Besides, his mistakes don't count anyway because he made up half the friggin' English language. I think he can get away with a few mechanical and/or grammatical no-nos. I'm not saying I like the guy, of course (ugh... reading Romeo and Juliet for English class was the biggest pain in the butt ever... and then we had to watch the old movie. At least Much Ado About Nothing was somewhat funny. Romeo and Juliet was just.... bleargh! ).
