Well, sorry I wasted everyones time if the DESIGNERS have already made a decision. Back to not being active again. There might be new factions in the future - that part is undecided. It was decided that there would be a poll to gauge the sentiments of the community. This poll served that purpose, so thank you for posting it.

As far as not enough characters, I think people are forgetting just how deep one can go into a movie. See all of the random unique fringe characters from the last few years that were in the movie. If you add in the sure to be overwhelming amount of new EU material trying to cash in on the movie's success you will have dozens of unique characters faster than you can make them into minis. As well as plent of filler options for troops. As well there can be a couple different versions that are cool (anyone remember the every single set new Vader or ani?) so to show how easy it would be and again advocate for the simplicity and necessity of new factions here are some ideas:

That is just off the top of my head and I haven't even read the novelization yet where they probably name every single deck officer in any scene.
They even say it in the movie though. When the fringe alien lady is talking to the main cast. How there is always darkness and light, then references the Sith, the Empire and then the First Order AS SEPARATE ENTITIES! Not well there was the Sith and now this is this imperial offshoot. He first order is something different and needs to be treated that way. As well there is a reason that the resistance doesn't call themselves the New Republic. We can try to lump them into what we already have but that is doing the movie, the characters, new and old fans and our game a disservice.

Love this! Emplacement as it was tied down. Terrible attack (hard to aim), huuuuge damage if you hit, and crashing into everything adjacent and causing damage to everything it crashes into. Ha!

Well, this poll I think served the purpose of it getting some serious discussion.... Even some people who voted no changed their opinion after some discussion.
I don't see an issue either if enough in the community are interested in the idea, then create a 12/14 piece set for the 2 "new" factions and let some play tests begin now... The issue I see if you guys wanted to do it later... is the playtesting will delay everything.... But if you went ahead and did some play testing... It would accelerate the process... And may even show that its not worth the effort if it plays out that way.

Don't mind either way. Could have new factions and have an entire set based on just these two factions. a set of 60 plus a mini set. well that's as many as some factions now.
I would like to see the new character as vsets, and guess the faction is not as important to me as having the characters.
Not voted yet. think I will think about it for a few days. Not that in real terms the vsets guys have to abide by it in any case.

it's just a base, with not even a clear mini on top hehehe
there's easily a bunch of aliens and robots from the film to make a lotta-lotta customs,
let alone alt-continuity stuff to make too.

Yes I would agree that the Resistance should be different than the New Republic. However, the First Order is still just a reorganization of the imperial remnants with a new title. She was just acknowledging its current incarnation. It even has an evolution of the republic and imperial symbol. The same can be said of the Resistance who have a symbol that is an evolution of the Rebels. Another thing I just noticed is what FFG did with X-Wing Miniatures. They have a new new starter set out containing Poe Dameron's X-Wing and two First Order Tie's. These designated as subfactions of the Rebel and Imperial respectively so maybe this is the solution we use for now. Also when FFG added the Scum and Villainy faction they just released a new card for the imperial Boba Fett and kept him legal in both factions.

The empire was just the sith empire under a new shorter name, that's just splitting hairs. You don't want new factions, fine with that but your reason for it is poor.
anyway if and only if the two new factions get support and don't see why not with two new films to come out and dare say lots of novels, new factions would be nice. As already said if they are put into excising factions that's OK too. I do feel though that the Imperial is already a large enough faction without these. Not much of an issue for new republic as it's still small. Still it would work for both.

Its not that I dislike the idea entirely. I just don't think its appropriate...yet. The reason I gave the example from Fantasy Flight Games is because I don't think it would a bad idea to follow their lead. Go ahead and make the new characters and fit them into current factions, but have enough strategic discipline, which I think we have, to allow for them to be efficiently and effectively transformed into new factions when necessary.

Subfactions would seem to make sense, especially since the New Republic is in the movie and could potentially become more developed later.

The decision long term won't be made for a while. But so far there are no plans for new factions.
