Thanks for the input everyone. Winning is my last concern, but I also don't want to be frustrated by playing against characters Iv'e never heard of that were created to specifically counter older ones. Thanks for the 'real talk' jak ;)

Side note, how often do people play on Vassal?

Hope you at least stop by and chat or watch for awhile if you decide not to play.

Please don't be afraid to play either though just because of one grumpy old man's opinion. Yes there will be some stiff competition to be sure, but we would all really like to have the chance to welcome a new\ returning player to the game and even a bad day gaming is still a day gaming and not all bad, especially with the group we will have in attendance!

Strange mix. Lots of tier 2/theme stuff here.

Echo is playing Skybuck + Gungans.
Bill has "The Family" (Father/Queen Mother Tenel Ka/Son of Skywalker)
AndyHatton with his typical Daala swarm (mix of dignitaries and Death Squad Troopers).
Trevor pulled out old school NPE Extreme minus the Lancer.
greentime has a green-theme squad (NR Green Jedi + Yoda FS). Not giving him much chance here.
Weeks with an Affinity-abuse squad that has 6 different factions in it. Not even sure what the official faction is.
Meanwhile, I'm just at home making stuff up.

Les posted the squad sheets in the Facebook group. A little shaky on some of the handwriting, but I think this is pretty accurate:

Shawn/Caedus--Rebels with the new R2 and 3PO
Dillon H.--Blastbugs
Greg H.--VoL/100 pt Sid
Lou--Luke and Leia on Speeder
Jason/urbanjedi--Nom Bombs
Mike G/AceAce--ObiAni, Critdu
Lillian/Lily Wan--Resistance
Etienne/atmsalad--Daala
Bryan--Jangolore/Kelborn
Randy (sorry I missed you the first time!)--Storm commandoes

Greg running SidLothal
Lou with a mystery squad (blank squad sheet)
Jason with Vong

I'm going to rank these for the meta. Based just on squad archetypes versus the rest of the field... ignoring the specific player running it and the details of the squads (because I don't remember the exact details after I posted the summary anyway).

So about this meta. Almost no CE negation. No Disruptive that I notice. No Bastila. Pellaeon is in there a couple times, and 2 Vong squads. So CE heavy gets a boost. Force-dependent drops a notch.

Breakdown by dmg type:
4 Shooter squads (Storm Commandos, Resistance, Daala, Mandos)
3 Melee squads (Lancer, SidLothal, ObiAniMace)
2 Direct damage squads (Blastbugs, NomBombs)
1 Balanced squad (Ghost Crew with melee:Ahsoka, nonmelee:Kanan, direct dmg: Sabine)
1 ??? (Lou's mystery squad, which I obviously can't rank here)

Also of note:
5 squads with major shooter defense (Cloaked or SuperStealth or RDE)

So here are my rankings/predictions:

1. Vong NomBombs (Extreme paper)
No major CE negation means this squad jumps near the top. Everyone coming adjacent to eat SD20. Unless the map is wide open and the bombs can be shot easily. Or if they are forced to clump up and get hit by area attacks. Daala and Resistance may be the toughest matchup, but even those are probably 50/50 and those two will have a rougher path to the finals.

2. Vong Blastbugs (Direct damage swarm)
Should beat the tank squads (SidLothal, ObiAniMace). Near autoloss to Lancer. Loses to NomBombs (there should be more bombs than Blastbuggers, but I don't recall the exact counts in these squads). Against the shooter squads, depends largely on map, but should generally have an advantage. As long as it avoids the Lancer, it could easily win the whole thing.

3. Daala (Elite Scouts)
Still formidable. Blastbugs will be rough. Both tank squads are pretty serious anti-shooter hate. Overall an average meta for Daala. Should fare well (or at least 50/50) against the rest of the field. Has It's a Trap to help against the 2 superstealth squads. Lancer will be tough, but not unbeatable. Should have a chance in every matchup, even if it doesn't have the advantage.

4. Resistance (8 activations)
Plasma Bolt and Never Upset a Wookiee will help tear through the tanks, but perhaps not quickly enough. Should be close games against the tanks, but I'll give Resistance the edge. Retailiatory Barrage should defeat the Lancer. But they won't do very well against mobile attackers. Mobile Blast Bugs should win. As should the Mandos movement breakers. And the Nom Bombs. Should play Ghost Crew pretty close. Both Imperial troop squads can go super-stealth in a Force bubble to negate both Accurate and Force Sense. Rough times there.

5. SidLothal (Melee tanks)
The two tanks squads should play pretty even. There are more shooter squads here, but the two direct dmg squads look like the favorites. As such, ObiAni will have more trouble getting through them, because they're more dependent on dmg negation for an advantage. With Lothal's movement, he may be able to reach crucial commanders. Gives a slight edge to SidLothal over ObiAni in this meta. Both SidLothal and ObiAni probably have at least a slight advantage against any of the shooter squads (except the tank buster Bowcaster duo), but with Blast Bugs and NomBombs around, some of the shooter squads still rank higher in terms of best chance at winning the whole thing.

6. ObiAni and Mace (Super anti-shooter)
See above on SidLothal.

7. Ghost Crew (Mostly shooty plus Ahsoka, but Lightsaber gives an adjacent boost, low activation)
Cloaked, Mined Sabine could stand up to the BlastBugs (they die trying to come adjacent), but not the NomBombs (they blow up in her face). Balance here gives a decent chance against anything else, but no strong advantages.

8. Weir+superstealth Storm Commandos
Strong superstealth shooters. Leia's Force Sense means Resistance is major trouble for this squad unless they can stay in the Force bubble. Anti-shooter defenses on several other squads also hurt, but with superstealth and strong dmg output, the shooter defenses don't add up to an autoloss for these guys. But it doesn't add up to an advantage either.

9. Jangalore Mandos
Should beat Lancer. May have trouble with the Cloaked/Superstealth squads. May have trouble with the tank squads. Mobility should get a big advantage over the Resistance squad.

10. Lancer squad (Extreme Scissors)
Easy win against Blastbuggers. With everything else, it's hit-and-run and hope to stay hidden. Probably loses to SidLothal and ObiAniMace. Will have a hard time doing anything against Resistance with Chewie waiting to kill it. Mandos get Quick Draw. Rough meta for the Lancer. Not a lot of strong advantages other than the Blastbuggers. And that's 4 where it would be downright tough to pull out the win. That said, Lancer should play pretty even with everything else. So there's a path to win the whole thing... as long as it only runs into 1 bad match-up in Swiss and wins the rest, then get good match-ups in the final 4.

1, 3, 5 and Lou's Speeder squad were the top 4.

Jason (Nom Bombs) vs Etienne (Daala) in the finals.

That SOS has a big target on his back. Will be interesting to see how long he can last.

What type of speeder squad? Rebel twins?

Hey, if the shoe fits you can stick it in said hole, it's a shame we have people discouraging people from playing at all!
