On the other hand, i'll enjoy old republic movies. Revan, Malgus, maybe Exar - and in my opinion disney should go that way. actually if episode 7 is about 20 years in the future and goes along with the YUUzhan vong war, than it would work out pretty well. They could even still use Harrison Ford, Mark Hamil, and Carrie fisher and they would look more accurate. I will say though if it is called Episode V!! i dont see them making it about the Old Republic. On the Bright side though i will say it would be interesting to see them do an Old Republic Tv cartoon or tv show I would love it if they made the next movies in the star wars series in the style of Star Wars the Clone Wars tv show. The animation is good, and they can actually get good voice actors for the parts. The money can be spent to give us a really great looking movie and it would even be good in 3D. If they had Luke, Han and Leia in the movies, they could hire them as voice actors and save us the agony of watching a not so good looking Carrie Fisher and an ancient Harrison Ford. Mark Hamil probably could still do his role in a live action film as Luke if he lost some weight.

This is what it's all about: (copied from wookieepedia) The sequel trilogy was to feature Luke Skywalker as a Jedi Master in his sixties, passing on the torch to the next generation of Jedi, the dismantlement of the last remnants of the Galactic Empire and the rebuilding of the Galactic Republic. It would also have concerned the re-establishment of the Jedi Order, as foreshadowed by Yoda's line in Return of the Jedi, "Pass on what you have learned."
I don't think that it'll be a Thrawn-based episode, which might be a bit disappointing for some people.
Wait a minute... look here: (copied from wookieepedia) Officially, the sequel trilogy's place can be said to be taken by the Thrawn Trilogy, the Dark Empire comic series, and the other books and comics produced since 1991 which continue the adventures of the heroes of the original trilogy.
This gives us some hope.
(Well, I don't really know anything about the Thrawn Trilogy, but...)

Thrawn trilogy was more than good enough as books IMO. I'm more interested in something new that fits with what we already have,

You do understand that is all speculation, right? I highly doubt anyone on Wookieepedia has access to the story treatments for 7, 8, 9 that Lucas handed over. And Lucas's thoughts on 7, 8, and 9 has been extremely fluid over the years. And he no longer has power to ensure the story isn't changed.

It'll be either the best thing ever, or the biggest disappointment.

Perhaps the Mouse should engage in the timeless art of the "focus group" before they bollocks things up. IMHO.

Dang. This means we have to start statting Disney characters as legit Star Wars figures. Darth Donald, Mickey Mouse-Lagacy of the Light Side, Goofy-Bombad Somethingorother, Emperor Scrooge, Baloo-Galactic Smuggler need to be fleshed out for V-Set 7 Wish Upon a Star Wars.

Lucas did create Star Wars, I will be forever grateful for that but it out grew him when the first Star Wars EU novel was released. Splinter of the Mind's Eye in 1978, during production of ESB? Well not quite. I wonder if a reset, like Marvel and DC do regularly is coming? EUrmaggedon? Splinter was Georges idea first pitched during the making of A new Hope when they thought it would bomb and they could only get a TV sequel. Look at it this way, Disne/Marv have been faithful and respectful towards the fans of Marvel. More so than GL ever was to the fans of SW! Lucas changed his mind/ideas/backstory/credits with wiff of a dollar bill. Yes, we may see a slight change in canon and SW EU future history, but i actually dont mind, because they will still be respectful to the SWuniverse that has been created by thousand of other people after GL. I'm not knocking GL&SW in anyway but it out grew him years ago. Will we get another Film Mr Lucas? "There will never be another Star Wars film, Episode 6 is the end of the story. It is Canon the rest is Fan Fiction"(words to that effect) Mr Lucas, heres $4billion"My dream for the past 35 years has been to pass on Star Wars to the next generation of film makers! "

You look at what Disney got in the deal. $4 Billion for just the Star Wars rights is fair, if maybe low. But Disney got so, so, so much more. They got the whole of Lucasfilm, which includes Indiana Jones. Industrial Light and Magic, probably THE premiere cgi company. Toss in Skywalker Sound and Lucasarts, and you've got an amazing deal. Disney got a tremendous deal. I don't see how you can look at this deal, and not believe Lucas when he says he wanted to entrust Star Wars to someone so he can move on. Add in that it looks like Lucas will likley donate most of that, $$$ seemed to be the last thing on his mind. I do think Lucas is allowed to change his mind. Reports are showing that VII actually has been in the works for sometime. Considering the Star Wars story that Lucas dreamed up seems to change almost every year, it is possible he had a good idea.

I hope the new movies fall right into the big void in the EU between Fate of the Jedi and Legacy. They could do a new movie every 2-3 years plus books/comics in between and continue the chronology for another 50 years without stepping on the EU.

Mark Hamill: Quote:Yeah, last August, he asked Carrie and I to have lunch with him and we did. I thought he was going to talk about either his retirement or the Star Wars TV series that I’ve heard about — which I don’t think we were going to be involved in anyway, because that takes place between the prequels and the ones we were in and, if Luke were in them, he’d be anywhere from a toddler to a teenager so they’d get an age-appropriate actor — or the 3-D releases. So when he said, “We decided we’re going to do Episodes VII, VIII, and IX,” I was just gobsmacked. Source: http://insidemovies.ew.com/2012/10/31/mark-hamill-star-wars-episode-vii-disney/
