I like the new Luke squad much better. It still seems like it will struggle to put out damage, but I think it is much more flexible than the original version.

Stats - power rating is my word for a rating of aggregated placings over the regional season. 1 means only 1st places in Regionals, 0 means only last places. Imperials are doing really well, Rebels and Vong are struggling a wee bit, and everyone else is somewhere in the middle.
Imperial, made the top4 4 times in 7 attempts (57%), overall power rating 0.69 Mandalorian, made the top4 3 times in 9 attempts (33%), overall power rating 0.44 New Republic, made the top4 4 times in 13 attempts (31%), overall power rating 0.54 Old Republic, made the top4 once in 4 attempts (25%), overall power rating 0.46 Rebel, made the top4 0 times in 3 attempts (0%), overall power rating 0.25 Republic, made the top4 3 times in 13 attempts (23%), overall power rating 0.55 Separatist, made the top4 4 times in 9 attempts (44%), overall power rating 0.56 Sith, made the top4 5 times in 14 attempts (36%), overall power rating 0.45 Yuuzhan Vong, made the top4 0 times in 7 attempts (0%), overall power rating 0.38
One possible trend this year is Dark Side domination. Imperials are the most successful faction, Sith are the most run faction, Separatists are doing well, and Vong have arguably improved somewhat on past years.

I realised in the shower yesterday that instead of just posting lots of numbers, the sensible idea is to make a graph. This graph includes all Regionals to date, except WNY where there aren't full results yet, as well as LowerHuttACon2013.

Last February I asked for an opinion of the relative strengths of the factions after V-Set 5 and this is how the Bloo consensus rated them (simply for comparison to Hutts graph. "Here are the average ratings of everyone's opinions so far."1-9 Rankings with 1 being Top 1 Imperial: 1.75 1 Republic: 1.75 3 Separatist: 2.75 4 Old Republic: 3.75 5 Sith: 5.5 6 New Republic: 6.25 7 Rebel: 6.375 8 Mandalorian: 8.125 Interesting the the majority called the Imps tops, yet while we Said the Sith were middle of the road, that didn't stop a large group of playing them; guess they're the Sexy Choice for 2013.

I just dug up that thread, and to be pedantic it's actually after v-set 4 - http://www.bloomilk.com/forums/default.aspx?g=posts&t=11767 - so before Sith got Caedus and before Mandos got Kelborn. Those pieces have been important factors in their respective factions' success this season. The two new Lukes have featured in a big chunk of New Republic squads too.

On the flip side, Caedus is a fun piece (I had him in a Booster Pull tourny) but he and Kelborn apparently haven't changed their faction's meta too much from what I've seen .... so far.

@surf rider: I don't know about that. Kelborn appears to be an auto include in Mando squads this season and they are getting run regularly. As for Caedus, TheHutts chart doesn't include the WNY Regional which was won by a Caedus/Malgus squad which gives him 2 Regional wins in two completely different builds. Those characters appear to be significant factors within their factions.

No wins for Mandos yet, but they've made the top 4 four times in 8 events so far this year - last year, over 16 events, they made the top 4 four times as well. That's a big improvement, and imo Mandos and Sith are the big improvers this season. Seps are doing very well compared to last year too, but I think that's partly a reflection that, while they weren't bad last season (since they got lots of good things from wotc) but they got their biggest toys from the v-sets in the last couple of sets. Really, I think Kelborn is Ganner/R2 Astromech/Dodonna good - he brings so much to the table that you'd hardly ever leave him out of a competitive squad.

well they are the second most played faction so should have the second most top 4s and 2nd most victories.

Cassus fett wrote: wow I can't believe that sith and NR haven't won but Mandos have That's last years - that was the year that every faction won a Regional - Weeks and Tim Ballard won with the same Sith squad on the same day, and Wes won the last Regional with New Republic.

Yep, that was firmly the idea. I was one of the designers, and Kelborn is easily my favorite piece from that set. There are a bunch of other pieces that I really enjoy too, but Kelborn is just so much fun.

Also, in power ratings - Vong have a very respectable number for a faction that hasn't made the top 4 of a regional this season - they must be getting a lot of solid mid-table finishes: Rebel: 0.22 Old Republic: 0.38 Mandalorian: 0.40 Yuuzhan Vong: 0.41 Republic: 0.48 Sith: 0.52 New Republic: 0.55 Separatist: 0.56 Imperial: 0.71
