Ok, I just got absolutely destroyed by the Czulkang Lah team, and my question is this:

If all of the pieces in the Epic sets are melee, and most are force users, that seems to make these matches unbalanced. For ex. In our match, even though I used the Epic Maul and scored two crits. LAh's Counterattacks made absolutley short work of Maul... On my own Attacks.. Mauls Joru style did more harm then good.
Obviously having a great shooter will help, but this figure hunted down my shooter with no effort at all...

My question is this: Is there a dice roll for Epic Figure picks, And what else might keep the Vong from being played exclusively in this format?

Now I realize that these pieces are more for fun, and not for inclusion in regular 200 pt games, but I was just wondering if there was an actual guideline for EPIC matches? Thanks!BlooMilk

Some quick things to note, Mara Jade, GH is a non melee unit, Luke has Twin Blaster (and Use the Force & Flurry), and both Yoda and Bane have Lightsaber Throw (As well as respectively having Lightsaber Precision and Sith Rage to boost the damage) allowing them to hit at range.

Lah certainly has a large advantage against melee beatsticks, so careful positioning is needed to whittle him down before the main confrontation happens, but he is beatable if you remain careful.

One idea I had was to get a d12, line the cards up in alphabetical (or numerical) and then roll. What you roll corresponds with what piece you get to use.

At GenCon we just turned the cards face down and shuffled them, then chose one at random.

Now thats a good idea! having a random way of picking the Characters is the way to go. I'm not saying the Lah piece is unbeatable. Just very difficult. Even Luke's Twin Blasters have a hard time overcoming Lah's Vonduun Crab with a save of two. And by the time Lah bases Luke. Its over. For every Melee attack Luke makes. theres a chance for two Lah attacks.
I just was reading over at Gamers a thread I found on this subject. It might be worth taking note of. The amount of damage someone figured you'd need to put on Lah was close to 460 Hps.
I'm not saying the Lah combo cannot be beat at all. It's just that it might turn out that the majority of players in this format will choose the Lah combo. Essentially it might be compared to the GOWK problem awhile back where he became the Hate squad focus.
I like that idea where a dice roll determines the character for Epic matches. We might try that.

Well, then everyone is playing Lah and not using Force Users at all...eventually people will see that will get boring really quick...
