I have been wanting to make some customs for characters from comics, but I like to do characters that are only canon. I know that Star Wars Tales is in general non-canon, but certain stories I know ARE canon, because they correspond with the Star Wars storyline (such as Lando winning Cloud City). So, how does one tell the difference between canon and non-canon comics? If you guys can help at all, it would be appreciated.

Pretty much the general rule is that all of the Tales comics are Non Canon. The only way they become canon is if a novel, movie, or TV show references them. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a resource that lists what is and is not canon from all of that. But to the best of my knowledge, you either know, or you don't know. Just a matter of what you stumble across. Some stories are clearly not canon though, an example being the extremely cartoony ones. One time I remember an Imperial Meeting with a Hologram of Yogi Bear.. haha. Is there any character specifically you want to make? oh and you can read about the canon here

@Bob Chizo, I think there are varying degrees of cannon; as the term cannon is itself subjective Theres the Lucas Cannon: Only the movies that lucas was involved in producing/writing. Theres the EU cannon: Only any stuff that Lucas (or a representative of lucas) signs off on/assents And then there's personal cannon: What do you hold to be 'authoritative'? I tend to side with personal cannon. Originally I was a strictly Lucas Cannon person, but since 'The Clone Wars' Movie was released, I basically pick and choose what bits I like. The rest doesnt exist. (Im looking at you, Kotor...) For Example, I hold that Jango Fett Blood Lines and Jango Fett: Open Seasons are both equally cannon. Some of the older marvel Star Wars (including conflicting Boba Fett Chronicles) are non-cannon; that is, they never happened or are what ifs. Star Wars has become as confusing as either the Avengers or The Justice League in terms of changes/what is cannon or not. Hope this helps, and its a really interesting subject for sure. I look forward to seeing some lively discussion on the topic, Kobayashimaru

The current Tv Show ruins a timeline of well played out books, comics and I suppose the original Micro Series. That problem isn't helped by them putting episodes out in random orders. Various episodes that take place before or after certain events, and not linear as the show progresses. Season 2 and 3 both have episodes that take place before the events of say the Season 1 Finale. why? I guess its Lucasfilm and why not... lol

Thanks guys. I know that some stuff (like the Yogi Bear and Imperial Officer comic [ I still loved that comic]) is non-canon. Mostly what confuses me is the conflicting timelines of the new Clone Wars series and the old one, along with all of the books that took place between Episodes 2 and 3.

Pretty much we will have to wait till after the Clone Wars TV show is done with to have a proper timeline. It keeps making more and more changes as it goes on. Something like the where and when of Even Piell's demise or the appearance of Quinlan conflicting with him being undercover.

Solution: New clone wars isn't cannon, doesn't that fix everything? Haha
All other mishaps - like the marvel comics - have been retconned into cannon (that wasn't boba fett that was spar)

And regarding Tales, I think that certain ones are cannon because wookieepedia only includes the "ambigous disclaimer" when it refers to issues 1-20.....now if there were only 20 issues then disregard this statement

it went to 24 issues. I think it was just the last 4 of them but they changed the format to be like 2 or 3 big stories per issue instead of lots of little ones. The intention was for canon stories. Thats how I recall it, but I no longer own those to go check, and I think I am at wookieepedia too much as is, to go and check lol and not all of marvel has been included as current canon, just the parts the current authors like. the majority of it is rotting in a cellar.
