as would Final Fantasy mmo's
Also, I'll remind you of DC universe's success...
the PS3 console version and the PC version do not share serves. therefore greatly reducing player interaction. The most important part to an MMO's success is player unity. Splitting it up in two mediums and then on all the different servers was a horrible move.
Also that game failed to take off in numbers, and will be free to play in October while also condensing the entire game down to just a few servers. I wouldn't doubt seeing it shut down after another year or so of decline while SW picks up tremendous speed.
The biggest problem of all was making the game fast paced enough that max level could be achieved in no more than 3 days, as well as being able to see endgame content immediately. This game was doomed by a complete and total flaw in basic design alone. How can you keep subscribers to an ongoing game when you serve everything on a silver platter even faster than a Blizzard game? It is designed as an action game, and would have been much better left as such instead of marketing it as an MMO at all.
While SWTOR will succeed by implementing gameplay and content brand new to the MMO genre. Refreshing it and keeping its fan base long term. Their budget being spent on a ton of story and well laid out writing, alogn with cut scenes and full voice overs to back it up. A true cinematic experience while also keeping to the real roots of a progression MMO involving PVE and PVP. If they were making any critical error, it is not having support for MAC at game launch. Consoles are meant for a completely different breed of gaming that spawned off of them. While MMO's are entirely computer oriented from the get go.
