I'm doing a tac-rpg campaign using Fool's star wars CE rules and I've been chewing over one part of the campaign for awhile now, and I need to get it ready for the first battle in about a week......the soundtrack.....see, I don't want to go the easy way out and use the star wars CDs, I want to use songs you'd hear on the radio so they can carry more emotional weight
For instance, the duel between anakin and obi-wan on Mustafar could have "i hate everything about you" by three day's grace (for the lines "i hate everything about you so why do I love you?") And an order 66 battle could have "my happy ending" by Avril Lavigne (for the lines "all this time you were pretending so much for my happy ending)
Another song for a duel against enemies could be "push" by matchbox twenty, a battle could have "dangerous game" by three doors down, a riot could have "danger" by third eye blind, and such
I'm looking mostly for rock and punk type songs, no one in my group listens to country or rap
If you have any others please list them and the situatons they would best be used in, as well as a small sample of the lyrics
The main one I'm stuck on is this is a clone wars campaign that has pre-invasion elements of the Vong in it, and I need a song that best captures the "WHAT THE----?" Moment the characters would have when the vong rudely interrupt a massive clone on droid battle

Well, I'm more an orchestral soundtrack kind of guy myself, but you could try "After the Flesh" from the original Crow soundtrack. If Vong are involved, it seems somehow appropriate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feJj-SvNq0k

(A very good soundtrack by the way. ) The group that specifically sings the song in the link is called My Life With The Thrill Kill Cult.

My suggestion would be to page though the soundtracks for the webcomic Homestuck (Yes, a Webcomic has a sound track, 18 "discs" at this point). It's got a whole bunch of songs for almost any type of event. Here would be a good example of one of their more battle-ly songs.

Hey, if you PM your email address, I can email you some of my band's music which - now, I don't wanna talk it up to much, but - we rule. Its 3-piece Jazz/Rock Instrumentals designed to be awesome. Some of it is LotR-inspired. *Guaranteed* to be awesome - and spice up any SWM session. Alternatively, http://kezzamachine.fusion.net.nz/ will give you some of it. I recommend 'Morning', 'Glazing Man', 'Aragorn's Theme', all the Cynosure stuff, and all the DJ Nu'un Esse stuff. Rock on.

For intense short moments check out Danny Cockes "From the Blue" CD, there's no lyrics but it's songs that are literally made for commercial videogame/action movie spots. Very intense and emotional (also great for the gym). I also recommend video game soundtracks, again usually little to no words but some ideas: Mass Effect 1 and 2 for combat, exploration type stuff Dragon Age 1 and 2 for emotional important conversations and such Also whenever we game we either rock one of the above or else the new Daft Punk Tron soundtrack, really helps with that missing audio element of games.
