Well, we have two weeks remaining in this year's Rugby World Cup and we're down to the final four teams! (I'm surprised no one's posted about this yet! It is only the third most watched sporting event in the world! (citation needed)
Anyhoo, its time to select the SWM Team to play in the Finals. Who from the SWM array of characters will be good enough to make the starting XV?

For those of you who don't quite understand Rugby... here's a rough idea of positions:
Forwards (the big, stocky characters who will more than likely simply run through you)
#1 and #3: Props - big, mammoth guys that often have no neck. They support the #2 and run it straight.
#2: The Hooker - don't get confused... they are in the middle of the scrum and 'hook' the ball back... they still look a lot like 1 and 3 though.
#4 and #5: The Locks - the second rowers are the tallest in the team. They get thrown up, or jump, in the lineout (from the sideline) to catch the ball. They also push behind the front row guys (#1-3)
#6 and #7: Flankers - the fit onto the 'flanks' of the scrum and provide a heap of power, as well as being uber quick - they're usually the first to tackle folk and try steal the ball.
#8... well, he's called the #8 - He's much like the flankers, except he is right on the back of the scrum, often controlling the ball with his feet at the lineout.

Backs (fast, sleek fellows that appear on posters and in deodorant commercials more than the forwards)
#9: The Half-Back - he is the link between the forwards and the backs. He gets the ball from a tackle position, or the scrum, or a lineout and fire quick, fast, accurate passes to the #10 or the backs... or whoever.
#10: First-Five/Eight - The #10 is the general. He can pass it out to the rest of the backs or kick the ball into space. If your #10 is awesome, your team is most likely gonna be awesome.
#12 and #13: Second-Five/Eight and Centre: These two guys are next in line after the #10. They can be great runners, great kickers, great passers... usually a little of all three.
#11 and #14: The Wingers - They often right on the end of the line. They are fast, they score tries. (The #11 is often on the other side of the scrum being somewhat more sneaky...)
#15: The Full-back - not only does he do much of what the numbers 11-14 do, he's also the last line of defence at the back, plus can field kicks from the opposing team.

One of them is the Captain (can be anyone) and one of them is the kicker (takes all the place kicks... can be anyone too, but is most often a back and is most often the #10)

That's my half-assed analysis... but here's a wikipedia link that will prolly do a little better...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_union#Teams_and_team_structures

Anyhoo - who are your selections? (Eg., You might select Jabba, Crime Lord because he has no neck, so would probably not look out of place in the #1 jersey... maybe...) Go to it!

Is this a team effort where we select one or two minis each?

General Rieekan would make a strong First Five (#10) - he's kind of the pretty boy, and giving allies Mobile and Evade would improve the team.

I like General Skywalker as the Centre (#13) - he's got pace (Knight Speed, Greater Mobile), and he's got defensive abilities (Lightsaber Defence, Djem So), and his wingers and fullback can benefit from his Commander Effect (Momentum).

If we're allowed upcoming characters, Jek Porkins would make a good tighthead prop (#3).

Wales to win? Do you know anything about rugby?

Luke Skywalker - he's got to be 1st 5
Quinlan Vos - Centre
Chewbacca - lock (of course)

Here's my entire 15. I don't think any team is going to stand up to my Vong loose forward trio, while there's a lot of pace out wide with Yobuck and LukeTaun on the wings. Supreme Overlord Shimrra will captain the team from number 8, and they're secured a Yammosk as head coach.

#1: Jabba Crime Lord - he's a good build for a prop. Goes on the loosehead side, since he's a bit smaller and more mobile than #3.

#2: Celeste Morne - has good access to turn people into Rakghouls from the heart of the scrum.

#3: Jek Porkins - perfect build for a tighthead prop. Can anchor the scrum, although he may not get to the rucks very quickly.....

#4: Kaminoan Medic - good lineout jumper. I imagine Jek will be able to lift him like I would lift a feather.

#5: Chewbacca, Rebel Hero - good height, adds some bulk to the scrum.

#6: Warmaster Nas Choka
#7: Shedao Shai
#8: Supreme Overlord Shimrra (Captain) - you don't want to mess with this trio of Vong. Will help sure up a defensively weak 10/12 combination.

#9: Nen Yim - good interaction with the loose forwards

#10: General Rieekan - the pretty boy, can direct play. In a little known fact, and an uncanny parallel to the All Blacks, he strained a groin muscle shortly before the battle of Hoth, while testing the ion cannon. He had to play on through the pain.

#11: Yoda on Kybuck - lots of pace.

#12: Twilek Black Sun Vigo - defensively weak, and arguably a bit small for the position, but synergises beautifully with Rieekan inside him and General Skywalker outside him.

#13: General Skywalker - speed, defensive powers, a great CE. The only worry is his lack of hit points.

#14: Luke Skywalker on Tauntaun - again, lots of pace out on the flank

#15: Jarael - speed 8, great defensive abilities. The perfect fullback.

Coach: Yammosk

Settle down, Skippy. We are the form team of the world cup. Wales has as much of a shot as any.

SWM 15

1. Overlord shimra - Big and beefy
2. K'kruk - a bit savage - just what you need to be in the center of things
3. Warmaster Tzavong lah - takes the biggest beating which is what you need from the tighthead and his presence inspires momentum charges for the rest of the pack
4. Chewie Rebel hero - support for the front row and powefull ball carrying momentum surges. A great #4.
5. Darth Bane - the resemblance to the iconic O'Connell is just uncanny
6. General Windu - fast, powerful and improves the attack of those around him
7. Uliq Quel dromma - a lot of speed and survivability
8. Darth Vader Jedi Hunter - power and intimidation, you can't ask for more from a #8

9. Han galactic Hero -experience, agility, disruption around the fringes and the ability to snipe from anywhere. All must haves for a good scrum half
10 Darth Revan - Dark lord of the sith. The outside half needs to be a great tactition with speed and power these days.

11. Jareal - you can't coach agains speed and this chick has it as well as evasion and great fends

12. Grand Master Luke - power and speed, the perfect crash ball center
13. General Skywalker - Powerful momentum surges, and is able to put others through the gap

14. Yobuck - might get disqualified due to being 2 players in one, but you can't coach speed and this guy is 2nd to none

15. Zuckuss Bounty hunter - more of a defensive player but stops attackers dead in their tracks, intuitive and great at anticipating opponents plays. His intuition puts him in the right place whether in attack or defense.

Yeah, I was thinking that Parry was the equivalent of a fend. I like Zuckuss at fullback too.

I think Wales have exceeded themselves, and they're playing very well (and very stylishly), but if they meet the All Blacks in the final, they need to hope the All Blacks are a bit off colour.

Kez, I was born for this. :) the Cor brothers play a huge part in the team, Fel and Ran. the synergy in this team cant go unnoticed, and is shown by players in the dressing room week in, week out. thrawn is our captain, and our lucky number 13 is our kicker, you shall see why.

#1 gammorean guard. fat, strong, and ugly. the perfect prop XD

#2 boba fett, not much skill needed to hook a ball in a scrum... but someone has to do it... usefull when getting around the field as he is fit, and accurate shot for lineouts is a skill hard to leave out of a team.

#3 another gammorean. refer to #1 for reasons. :)

#4 I would also put chewbacca. tall, strong, also fit to get around the field, alot like brad thorn.. chewbacca should play state of Origin.

#5 amanin scout. long arms to catch the ball from the lineout, he is your lineout specialist.

#6 T'surr, im a big fan of big blindside flankers (jerome im looking at you) looks fit...and if you saw this guy running at you, you might come off second best most of the time.

#7 sith inquisitor. sure his fitness is in question, but he makes up for it with the turnovers he creates.

#8 If you thought a T'surr was bad running at you, have fun with a Rancor off the back of a scrum. big, fast, alot of agressiveness, great number 8.

#9 the link. the first playmaker. this spot goes to jarael. sure, she would make a good fullback, but her speed around the rucks, her defence in close, I think would be more exerted here at halfback getting more of the ball than at fullback.

#10 warmaster nas choka. tactically aware, great leader, good on attack, good on defence, and his leadership unlike characters of his calibre isn't restricted to the players around him, it is all over the field. susseptable to groin strains as well.

#11 I would also put yoda on kybuck here, pace is irreplaceable(irrepaceable..?).

#12 mara jade, jedi edged out lord vader on this occasion, both have massive offensive capabilities, but mara's attack is much harder to defend (non-melee). also a little better on defence as well, and has a bit more versatility due to the fact she has all her limbs..

#13 rodian brute. doesn't bring much to the table, but his step is unstoppable (unsteppable..?)

#14 Felcor. brother to rancor, also has great speed, a great fend, and penetration.

#15 Grand Admiral Thrawn(captain). the general from the back, very tactically aware, slots himself into the backline whenever he sees fit, and without force, your opponent has to think twice about where he runs. also leads the team well, and bolsters your players.

THAT is a world-cup-winning squad!

Good squad Sharron! It's good to see some non-uniques - not everyone in the team can be a star. I an concerned, however, whether the huge base pieces will be competitive on some stadiums....

Ganner Rhysode would be a heck of a centre too - great at putting his wingers into space. Maybe I'll put him on my bench.

the huge characters are moderated (by kezza) to be: in preportion with the stadiums, whilst being ridiculously big at the same time. although the vong loose forward trio is deadly...

ganner could be the sonny(dollar) bill williams of the SWM universe... putting people in holes, with his offloads. BEAUTIFUL!

I wonder if these "teams" should be faction based...?
