I did a Force push 5 against a rancor. Another rancor with 30 pts remaining was adjacent to it. Adjacent to that 2nd rancor was my Leia (Jedi Knight) with Force Absorb. My opponent had Leia (Hoth Commander). He failed his 1st save attempt. He used a force pt to reroll. I used Force Absorb to prevent that. He said I couldn't because the rancor would have been pushed too far away. If a character runs out of Hit points, do they die instantly on that spot or are they still pushed? He said the target gets to choose whether he is damaged, then pushed or pushed then damaged. Is that true?

No. Damage and "when defeated" abilities occur at an earlier step than movement from Force Push. You cannot choose the order. This is covered under both Resolving Effects and Force Push in the FAQ.
