Vader, Agent of Evil is one of my favourite pieces in the Renegades, although I've been using him for casual games - I haven't been quite brave enough to try him in an official competitive game yet. This is the squad I've been using, while I've been bringing in pairs of 501st Stormtroopers for reserves. I like GAT and Arica in it, but I'm wondering if there are other changes I should make to it? Moff Nyna Calixte maybe isn't worthwhile to give super-stealth to Arica and the Stormtrooper Advance Scout, so maybe it's better subbing her out for extra activations, Grand Moff Tarkin, or a bodyguard for Vader.

--Vader's Super-Stealth Reserves--
65 Darth Vader, Agent of Evil
37 Grand Admiral Thrawn
31 Arica
18 Moff Nyna Calixte
15 Lobot, Computer Liaison Officer
11 Stormtrooper Advance Scout
8 Mas Amedda
6 Rodian Brute x2
9 Ugnaught Demolitionist x3

(200pts. 12 activations)

Who else has been using the new Vader? What builds have you been using?

I went 2-1 at Wampa Stompa using this:

Vader AoE 65
501st ST X 4 40
Thrawn 32
Mas 8
Pellaeon 16
Ozzel 11
Lobot 27

10 base activations, 199pts

In retrospect, I think I'd use 4 regular ST to start and only 2 501st, just to give me 2 more base activations. I like Arica, but I found out that the STs gave me plenty of firepower. Lobot and Pellaeon gave me plenty of counter options, and I have found that Pellaeon's Ysalimiri is plenty vs. OR. Although the game I lost was vs OR, Hinkebert will tell you that I had control of the game until I put Vader in front to block a couple of shots but stupidly left him in the bubble... he got critted and died. Pellaeon is plenty in my opinion...you don't need GAT.

The changes I recommend may not fly in your NZ meta, but this is the squad I have run competitively and I like my chances with it.

Thank you! I should try one of these squads that don't rely on reserves next time. I've been lucky so far, but it's a good bet luck will desert me when I have an actual tough game to play. I do kind of like the idea of the combination of Grand Moff Tarkin and Grand Admiral Thrawn, allowing the Stormtroopers to get off as many early-round attacks as possible after the two squads have engaged, rather than waiting on Opportunist. The new Vader is definitely interesting for squad building, as there are so many pieces that are potentially helpful - I haven't seen anyone use, for example, General Veers yet.

I did have a good look at the Wampa Stompa results when they came out. In NZ, our top bunch of players generally read Bloomilk etc and have a pretty good idea of what works and what doesn't; I don't think we're way different from the US players, except we haven't been playing as long and we do have a bunch of even newer players who sometimes just throw a random squad together. So in a typical tournament, the top half of the field have squads that are solid, then in the weaker half you might start to see problems like no door control, bad pieces, or a general lack of synergy. I do think we're likely to see lots of big force-using beatsticks and lots of OR in our local meta, so Force Bubble is pretty powerful at the moment, and there's no reason why Vader/Stormtrooper/Force Bubble squads won't do well.
