It just occurred to me how odd bravado is compared to other SA in this game. I do not believe we h any other sa that triggered off cost prior to this ability. I kind of wonder why not.

Wouldn't it have solved a lot of power issues in this game if there had been commander effects that stated "followers with cost less than X". It would be a simple solution to allow the release of commander effects that could easily break a character of mid to high cost. I don't know why the game designers shied away from this.
I suppose the biggest problem is having to check cost for character eligibility, but i don't really think that would slot the game down a noticeable amount.

WOuld this be a good mechanic to introduce to the game?

Actually, Reserves and Reinforcements work based on a piece's cost and Raport has been modifying costs for a long time. In this light Bravado is NOT such an odd thing.

Now I can agree that using unit cost could be done for a number of other things.

Rob was clearly spent of most his creative juices by the time he was finally axed; disillusioned with constant stop & start Wizards had been putting him through from the beginning as well as the cone of silence no doubt. Peter Lee definitely brought a lot of fresh ideas to the game in his two sets but he came in knowing the game was to be canned.

Honestly, it adds a fair amount of text, with marginal benefit. It is a tool, that imo, is only useful for the Mouse Droid syndrome. You want more stuff with the required like Roger, Roger?

"with cost less than X" is not much text at all.

One problem I see with the approach is that it will accentuate differences between slightly over-costed and slightly-undercosted figures if they are right at the cutoff (cost X).

Well, its a little different. No one is going to stop using mouse droids because of the restrictions of roger roger because there is not really an option to replace them with.

What an ability like "restricted to characters less than X" does, is allow you to bring back specific pieces into the game. For example... imagine a force spirit/mentor type character that had an ability like this "At the start of the skirmish, choose an ally with a force rating and lightsaber. That character gains lights saber defense". This ability could really help some of the lower powered jedi, and let them see more light. but the ability may break some of the more powerful jedi, like the new windu or the likes. Being able to put in "ally with cost X or less" would allow you to better restrict the ability. Likewise, you could say "cost above X" and bring back a piece like the original darth bane or kune, or revan without overpowering some of the lower cost newer sith. Maybe not a perfect example, but i think it could be used as a means to further work older pieces back into the game.
