Seeing Flying Arrow's play report on his scenario got me thinking. I don't get to play minis much unless I am on Vassal. But I like to bust out my minis every now and then. Are there any decent ONE player scenarios around? Such as NR beating off wave after wave of Vong warriors trying to take their ship, or Republic Commandos trying to infiltrate some defences or something? I would love to be able to play something like that. If there isn't I will have a think about it.

i have often thought of a way to play the game solo. the trick is to develop rules on how a NPC should work in game terms i had some ideas scribled on a napkin somewhere.

something like an NPC will always:

-always attack the legal target with the lowest defense.
-only move when it has no legal target.
-stops moving immediatly once it has a legal target.
-must end its move as close as possible to an enemy.

just a few ideas how to move some non-unique grunts if you want to just play a shoot em up style.

I have one that is Replic era. It is based on a Jedi Master taking a knight and youngling on a mission. The enemies are random beasts (shuffled so you only see the top one since you have the force). I don't recall the title, but I'm 99.8% certain that swminiverse.com has it on their site. It has "Caves" in the title if memory serves.

I have played it several times, but would love another as well.

There actually is an awesome Solo scenario that NickName, aka Jason Tanner wrote that WotC published on there site. It's called Peril in the Kailion Caves. You can find it here at the Star Wars Miniverse site.

It's a lot of fun! He did an excellent job with it. I had even talked with him several times through Bloomail about making other solo scenario's based off of his idea's. He said he was cool with me doing that. I did work on some different types of movement and attack tables based off of what he made. But then I got caught up in schoolwork and homework and set the project aside to work on when I had more time.

Now that you've brought the topic up WM it makes me want to get working on it again. ThumpUp

From what I've been working on with it in my opinion the solo scenario's would work the best with goal oriented objectives. Such as Capture the Droid, or Death Star Plans, ThumbsUp like in Flying Arrows very cool scenario. Maybe an Assault and Defend scenario. This way you can write up special objective based rules for the non-player controlled team to follow.

Something Jason and I talked about was making it so the other teams movement and actions weren't quite so random. Which was something that made his scenario play well. Monsters with savage roaming around was key for his scenario. But you wouldn't want Yuuzhan Vong or Stormtroopers aimlessly wandering around a base protecting the Death Star Plans.

If you'd like to see what I've come up with so far based off of what Jason started, I'd be more than happy to post here or BM you WM. ThumpUp

I think it would be an interesting idea to make certain characters have pre-determined routes...sort of like a patrol. And then maybe once (at the end of any character's turn), if a stormie/vong/trooper has LOS to an enemy, then it automatically goes into "attack mode", sort of like savage but where it has the mercenary-style ability instead, making an attack as soon as it gets the opportunity. Stuff like that.

Exactly, that was an idea I was thinking about as well. Also you could have Guard Stations, a stormie/vong/trooper guarding an area they have to defend and aren't allowed to leave. They might be guarding an objective that the player needs to take over and control, or it could be an objective that the player needs to destroy.

Idea's like this would help make a one player scenario easy to play and loads of fun! ThumpUp
