A new bill in the United States congress (the Stop Online Piracy Act) could allow private media companies to shut down web sites with no due process. Every podcast done about Star Wars Minis, even these forums, could be shut down. Worse, you likely have not heard of it because the media companies are not covering this new bill--they want it to pass quickly and quietly. Please, take a moment to watch this video and learn about the new bill: http://fightforthefuture.org/pipaMy friend Arnie, from Star Wars Action News, wrote a full response to this bill, and the potential impact it could have on podcasting, here: Venganza Media Gazette. Granted, his article relates to his podcasts in general, but they hold equally true to ANY podcast. These forums themselves could be at risk.

I Hope it doesn't happen. I agree with Arnie that it could spell trouble for Bloomilk and my other Favorite Star Wars Podcasts, However it would Hurt those companies like Lucasfilm, Wizos, Time Warner, Fox and everyone else so much. The Interest, and Money Generated for their product would be extremely devestated by any Shutdown. Yes it could Happen, and it might, but they only shoot themselves in the foot by doing this. Some News sites are talking about it. Actually I'Ve only heard of one, and THat's NPR, which isn't owned by the big boys. They actually had a nice piece on it that talked about the good and the bad aspects of it. I know, I must be an old guy listening to NPR............ Anyway, let's hope for the best

It is worth noting that certain web hosting companies also support SOPA, such as godaddy.com. A lot of people are moving their websites to different hosts.
I wish I was in a position to oppose SOPA in some meaningful way, but I don't think us Brits really can.

Actually, GoDaddy supported SOPA for about a day and has since withdrawn their support of the bill. This was after they had lost about 20,000 accounts! I'm sure they are still losing more, thanks to Dec. 29 having been "Drop GoDaddy Day".

Money Talks. In the long run, perhaps after sites and podcast ect. are taken down, The ones who are going to lose are the companies that want these sites taken down.I hope it doesn't come to that. The Internet, and especially sites and Podcasts create buzz about topics. For example, using the OP's original Podcast as an example. Where would Hasbro , and Star Wars , and Lucafilm be without Blogs and Podcasts ect. As a star Wars collector, I mean all things Star Wars, I listen to SW action News, ANd the Force Cast. I come here not only because I love to play SWMinis, but I love to collect. Take theses sites away and GUESS WHAT!!!! NO MORE MONEY FOR STAR WARS....Only because my awareness of products and events is taken away. This Bill hurts them if thats what they choose to do with it It will be like the Dark agea (POWER OF THE FORCE.. HE MAN Star Wars FIgs) what I consider to be the dark days of SW collecting... Lets hope it never comes to this because they will be the ones who lose, as much as us. The Star Wars community as a whole is very well connected, And Is a very special community. The SW minis community is a part of that, a special community... I hope that this doesn't pass for that fact

"SOPA is the equivalent of curing a headache with a guillotine. It may stop piracy, but it would shut down our economy and unconstitutionally erode our most basic freedoms in the process." - The Hill"The bills would empower the attorney general to create a blacklist of sites to be blocked by Internet service providers, search engines, payment providers and advertising networks, all without a court hearing or a trial. The House version goes further, allowing private companies to sue service providers for even briefly and unknowingly hosting content that infringes on copyright — a sharp change from current law, which protects the service providers from civil liability if they remove the problematic content immediately upon notification. The intention is not the same as China’s Great Firewall, a nationwide system of Web censorship, but the practical effect could be similar." - New York Times"The bill also covers more than just infringement (the act of streaming copyrighted content, a felony under SOPA, carries a five-year prison sentence). It also covers “facilitating” such content. That term is so poorly defined, however, it could well apply to a hyperlink on an entirely unrelated Web site, or a single Tweet. The potential for self-censorship is glaring, as is the potential for false positives – how many sites will nuke non-infringing content, or links to such content, just to be safe?" - The Globe and MailThe video Mark mentioned on fightforthefuture.org is great! Everyone should watch it. I just watched this excellent video recently, It goes over this topic and more: 28c3: The coming war on general computation http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=HUEvRyemKSg(I better enjoy posting youtube links while I still can )
