If this character is in your squad and you roll exactly 1 for initiative, you may immediately add up to 20 points of Separatist characters to your squad. These characters set up in the same area as your squad did, immediately before your first activation of the round. These characters don’t count toward the cost of your squad, and your opponent doesn’t have to defeat them to win the skirmish. If initiative is rerolled due to a tie, you add these characters to your squad only if your final, untied roll is exactly 1.

I bolded and underlined the word "your" above. Does that mean that if your opponent goes first, you chose your figures before s/he goes, but place them when your turn starts? We've always played it, and seen others do the same, with the emphasis on "immediately" and placed the new figures before either players activates.

Yep. You create and reveal the Reserves at the beginning of the round, but don't place them until your first activation. Additionally, this means that if the character who triggered the Reserves is no longer in your squad at the time of your first activation (Defeat, Betrayal, etc.), the reserves would be lost and not placed out on the field.
