Hi, folks!

My next map projects (not just Mass Transit IV, but two others as well!) are now up on Kickstarter:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mapmaker/mass-transit-iv-maps-and-more

Mass Transit IV is more of a special event poster than some of my others: it presents both levels of a twin-deck starship, along with a same-scale view of the exterior hull itself. Lifts and ladders connect the levels, and the interiors feature the SWM terrain lines.

The Alien Starship Tiles expand on General_Grievous's tiles (which we made available for free at http://www.mapsofmastery.com/downloads.html ) to build a full set of 12 double-sided terrain cards as an homage to the much-neglected (in map terms) Yuuzhan Vong. Mix and match the terrain cards to build an invasion fleet of gross-looking organic starships. They, too, feature the SWM terrain lines, and some may be fun for Tile Wars.

Finally, "Deck Space" is my answer to what some of you have long lamented: the lack of a commercially-available blank battle grid. One side is nothing but floor tiles that match my Sci-Fi Cargo tiles, letting you combine those products (or use the included sheet of 13 new tiles) to build custom skirmish layouts. The other side is similar, but includes railway pits to match my Mass Transit maps and let you continue the train tracks with your own custom layouts.

Check out the video on my Kickstarter page to see all three of these products in better detail; all of them are finished--I just need funding to get them printed.

Anyway, please share the link with your friends who don't visit here often! The more people who hear about these maps, the better chance we have of getting them into print.

Thanks very much!

I can't tell from the pictures. Is the ship in Mass Transit IV exactly the same as the one in Boarding Action? That is, could you lay out Boarding Action next to the Upper Deck/Hull to have the whole ship visible at once, or are there some differences?

Good question.

There are differences between the AR-37 ship in "Boarding Action" (Mass Transit III) and the AR-37 in "Offworld Docking Port" (Mass Transit IV). However, these differences are *mostly* cosmetic.

You can, indeed, use the upper deck and hull of "The Nova Eclipse" (Mass Transit IV) with the lower deck seen on "Boarding Action" (Mass Transit III), and everything will match up very well.

The only structural difference to be aware of is the fact that the AR-37 lower deck seen on "Boarding Action" does not have a central lift. This simply means that when you use these maps together, the central lift on the upper deck only goes up (to the dorsal hatch on the hull), not down (to the lower deck).

There are still many ways to move between decks, including the escape pod tubes, a ladder well in the crew compartment/upper deck corridor, a ladder and a cargo lift in the cargo bay, and numerous removable ceiling vents that connect to the air ducts.

Thanks for asking!

Thanks, swinefeld! I'm very excited about this, and hopeful that we can make it to the Alien Starship Tiles, too, before March 5th!

A quick bit of news: The funding has passed the first Mystery Reward goal, so now now every backer who gets a printed poster or card set will also receive a pair of custom dice with their order!

Thought I'd bump this in hopes of at least making it so the terrain cards would also get printed. Only 6 days left and $600 to go to make that happen. Good luck Mapmaker!

$401 to go for the Alien ship tiles. Hoping the Deck Space goal can be met, but it's a long way off.

The Alien Starship Tiles have met their funding goal, so they will definitely see print! Now the race is on for Deck Space, with 4 days remaining.

Please spread the word far and wide, folks, if you'd like a new blank battle grid & customizable battle map!

We are about 81% of the way toward getting all three new products for this drive (less than $1800 to go)!

Tell your friends everyone! That Deck Space map would be great for the RPG.

Thanks, Tony!

Overnight, backers ensured that Deck Space will see print as well! Now it's the final day of the funding drive, and people have until midnight tonight (Eastern time) to jump on the Kickstarter if they want a copy.

The posters and card sets will be in stores eventually, but by backing the funding drive, you can get them with free shipping (worldwide!), get PDF files of each map, get free *bonus* PDFs of a Passenger variant of the two Mass Transit IV maps, and score a pair of free custom dice!

(And possibly more free stuff if the funding goes higher today...)

Here's an abbreviated link; if you folks know anyone outside of this forum that would like any of this stuff, please share it!

By the way, if you don't care for the Nova Eclipse starship of Mass Transit IV but still want the Deck Space kit to build your own skirmish maps on the fly, you'll be able to choose it (or the Alien Starship Tiles) instead of Mass Transit IV in any of the rewards.

Wow, what a surge! Amazing. BigGrin

I hope enough stragglers get in today to reach the extra terrain pieces. I'll be keeping an eye on this. I'm not sure I've ordered enough copies of everything. Wink

I asked this over on Wizard but are the Deck Space maps going to be all/mostly empty space like the backside of the early starter maps?

Yes - they are shown in the promo video on the Kickstarter site. One side is completely blank with squares matching the cargo tiles from the earlier tile set. The other side is mostly blank - it just has rails that line up with the rest of the Mass Transit maps.

Oops. I guess I didn't realize that the image was actually a video link. That's what I wanted to know.

Thanks, FlyingArrow!

Now, just in case this thing defies all expectations and gets to $12K by midnight tonight, eastern time, I've uploaded cover photos of a fourth product: my very first card set, long out of print, which would make an awesome companion to Deck Space:

Indeed! We're down to the final hour now, and $322 remains to unlock a special mystery map: a PDF poster map download, free for all backers.

Sad I'm so wanting to preorder this but can't right now. Ugh. I'll have to nab it later. Although when I finally do make that order, I think I'll be purchasing two copies - if I ever use that ship for RPG play, sooner or later I'll be needing both sides of the map up at the same time so as to use both decks. Smile
