Ok guys, we'll see if this turns into a good debate rather than take a turn for the worst.
What in your opinion is the most balanced squad/faction to date? And by balanced, I define it as "the squad that has the very little weakness, and the best chance against most squads". It doesn't necessarily have to mean the "best" squad, but it doesn't mean it isn't either.
My vote goes to Imps, and more than likely a Black and Blue Vader/Cad squad. Based on the fact of act control, easy movement and swap, Master Tact, and high damage, it just seems to get the job done.

For balanced factions, I think Republic maybe win this. They have the ability to run a wide range of squad types that can do well, and R2-D2 Astromech Droid is still arguably the best value piece in the game. They didn't get anyone in the GenCon top 8 in 2008, but won 2007, got the only non-Rebel squad in the top 8 in 2009 (I think?), and got multiple squads into the top 8 in 2010 and 2011.
Some viable squad types, that all play differently from each other:
- Yobuck swap squad
- beat 'em up squads with Mace and GOWK
- low cost grunt squads - like Naboo Trooper or Spaarti Trooper death shot squads.
For squads: Weeks' list of Tier 1 squads from a few weeks back was a very good list of balanced squads that have a good chance against most other squads. If I had to pick one, up until Vengeance and the SSM change, I think New Republic's Solo Charge with Ganner/Mara was really good against most things.
But in the last month or two, with defensive pieces like GOWK and Zannah powered up, everything's been shaken up and I don't think we know what's powerful yet, although obviously Mace and GOWK is very strong against almost everything except Vong.

I'd have to say Solo Charge. It's SO good against everything. Its worst matchups still are at worst 50-50. The squad has tons of acts, accurate shot, direct damage, Distuptive, shuts down Tactitians, Movement Breaking, and Mara can kill most big threats. The best part is, if your opponent kills Mara they just set themselves up for Anakins Unleash the force.
