Spending a force point for extra movement Options

If I choose to spend a force point to move a piece more squares than its speed, is it required to do so?

I was thinking specifically about characters with GMA and other abilities that allow move-attack-move, and since the decision to move more squares happens prior to anything else, and the original plan for where the piece would end up changing due to things like bad die rolls thus making the original destination less enticing.

You don't have to use it, spending the Force point just gives you the possibility of doing it. You're just screwed because you spent the Force point and can't get it back.

If I remember correctly, you don't declare the use of the force point to move faster until just before you do it. This qualifies under the heading of "no storing force powers." Same thing for Master/Knight Speed. Also, if I remember correctly, Ysalamiri prevents this tactic if your regular movement runs out in the bubble. Unless this logic only applies to stuff like LS Assault and Siff Rage...hrm.

Confirmation on the above, pls.

But spending the Force point "just before you do it" would happen when you start your move; which in this case is before the GMA move and attacks happens.

that is correct from what I recall was the case when the game began, extra movement Force spent is done at the very beginning of the move, not at the end when you actually be noticing the extra movement. You can Master Speed into a Force Immunity Bubble but you can't Master Speed out, hence the whole point of this thread.

This is because movment is considered one action, and you need powers to specifically break the movement in order to break up movement.

Yeah, I saw this in the Rules forum somewhere recently and I concur with Chargers and R5Don4. The answer that was given was clear... you declare that you are spending the Force Point when you begin moving. If you're out of range of Ysalamiri when you begin movement then you can benefit from the additional squares it grants you.

I hadn't thought before about the implications of spending the Force Point then deciding not to use the extra movement. Interesting. I think that reinforces how important it is to be clear, and state these things at the proper time.

His point was, once you declare you're spending a FP for extra movement, it's gone whether you move the extra squares or not. Doesn't change anything about renewal.
