I had an idea to try something out. However, I believe it will work this way because of the text. On Vonduun Crab Armor, it stats this. (When this character takes damage, he can reduce the damage dealt by 10 with a save of 11)

It says he CAN. Does that mean he has to?

The save is not optional and must be made, even if you want a failure.

In this game (And practically any other minis game, CCG, TCG, etc.), when the word can is used, it does not imply having an option; It implies that the character has the ability to do something.
