Alright, so everyone knows that The Holocron had to shut down recently. It was a great resource, so I've decided to carry it on in spirit. But what I want to know is what does everyone want to see on a website like that. I've already started working on it, and NickName has been very awesome and gotten me all the files from The Holocron, so everything that was there will be here. That's a LOT of stuff, though, so I've still got plenty of leg work to get this up and running, and it's still a work in progress. Right now I've got a domain name, I've got a CMS, I just need to get stuff up and looking pretty before it's ready for the public eye.

In my mind, I want it to be a one-stop-shop kind of resource for anything you would need to read, download, whatever. It will have all the rules info, including the rulebook, glossary inserts, and FAQ. It will have tons of old articles, and I'm hoping I'll be able to post some new articles, too. It will have Vassal information, including how-to's as well as the mod files and everything you need to get that running correctly. It will have V-set cards. It will have tournament pairing software. It will have tournament entry sheets.

Basically, if there's something you could possibly download in relation to SWM, I want to have it hosted there. I won't be putting up a forum because we already have 2, and I won't be putting up an online squad builder or collection tracker because BlooMilk has those covered quite well.

As I mentioned, I'd also like to get regular articles up. If you'd like to write an article, let me know! If you want to write a regular column, even better!

What else would you guys want to see? Let me know! I want this to meet as many needs and desires as possible, so I need feeback to get that done.

I don't know if you have already thought of this, but, a SEARCH bar. That alone would make navigating the site (as it sounds to be pretty big) much easier.

And you say everything that was on the Holocron. Is that including The Lost Twenty?

Sounds like a great idea, I am glad that you are bearing the torch forward. I look forward to visiting the new site once it is up and running.

Long Live SWMinis!BlooMilk BigGrin

I don't know the legality of all this stuff, but it would be cool if there was an image gallery for maps

I often hear people talking about maps, but don't always know them by name. The other day I was dealing with a trader who had the Death Star map, and it took me about 15 minutes worth of searching google before i could find out what the map actually looked like to confirm that I didn't already own it... and even then, I wasn't 100% sure that the map was even really the death star map. It would be cool to just have a place that had them all listed, even if they aren't the high quality PDF's, just any sort of graphic listing would be nice.

+1 Articles !!
+1 Map Gallery !!

I would love to see how-to's published for Vassal - not just how to install it, as that is reasonably easy, but explaining whole process of setting up and playing a game, and any time-saving tricks. With screenshots!

As far as housing downloads, the more places stuff is available, the better. BlooMilk

All that sounds good. What about mini manger? I know you do most the vset updates for it these days. Would the of original programmer be upset if it was available through this site?

Excellent! Mini manager was one of the main things I wanted to get hosted on my site, but wasn't sure if that would be cool with the creator. Glad to hear he won't mind.

A map gallery is definitely something that can get put up there.

Thats also a good idea. There is a lot more to playing SWM on vassal then just getting the software working. Theres an etiquette to the game, and certain things that could really use clarification (how to setup the board, use the various tools, and essentially communicate effectively through Chat).

Gallery of winning squads - regionals and Gencon through the years.

Scenarios, chronologically ordered for those tied to the SW timeline (even if non-canonical). A separate list of generic scenarios. Ratings of which scenarios are the best.

Official map gallery - including the MANY alternate names. See kezzamachine's map PDF. Tile gallery. Unofficial maps - all the ones from holocron.

A complete links resource with descriptions of the linked sites.

Latest rules/FAQ/glossary.

Look for a post by kezzamachine a couple months back. He has a complete list with images of the official maps. I bumped it a couple times and asked that it be made sticky, but it wasn't so it's down in the scroll somewhere.

All excellent ideas for needs an or wants. I for one would very much like to see a site that incorporates all of what our community does. Why not an expansion of our friend Bloo? Why reinvent when expansion/centralization could be accomplished?

Its not that I dislike SWMgamers but could the community benefit from a single source that delivers on all areas of the game we love so much?

Because this game is constantly changing, I would like to see what is a sticky on how to:
-- update the Vassal Engine
-- how to load the latest module to Vassal
-- how to update Mini manager

This way, when someone who left the game for 8 months can quickly come up to speed to play again (instead of losing more fringe players).

YES! Big +1

I like most of the other ideas being brought up, but this particular one stood out to me.

Especially this:

This would allow players to see what is at the top of the game. Getting the winning Regional squads may be tough though.

Agreed, I definitely need to write up some instructions, and combine all the existing v-sets into one package to make it simpler now that they are stacking up.

Yes, I have seen these, but I was thinking along the lines of older Regionals.

I thought they only started in 2009? Maybe a year or two earlier, but I'm pretty sure they're relatively recent?
