I have a serious disliking of the fact that squads with V-Sets can compete against squads made of only actual miniatures. I understand it can be fun to play around with these imaginary mini's, but I strongly feel that squads with V-Set mini's should be in their own category(s) for rating squads. I think it just doesn't make sense to have a squad with a bunch of V-Set mini's compete with a squad that only uses actual mini's. There is a definite divide between actual mini's and V-Set mini's as far as new moves and point-cost goes, so it would just seem to make a lot of sense to have squads with V-Set mini's rated separately from those without.
What I am proposing is an addition to Bloomilk that would make any squad with a V-set mini automatically be separated in its own category so it cannot compete against squads without V-Sets. Anyone else agree? Thoughts? Comments?

You can just use the filter function to only see squads up to MotF if that is what you want. For that matter you can use the filter function to only see squads up to Universe. As far as ratings goes I never pay much attention to them, one bombers and the like.
Edit: If you are a Mando fan, I can't see how you can't love the V-sets. Do you really feel that that Taung Warrior completed the faction? Just because Wizards dropped the license doesn't mean they completed the game and it has to be over. The V-sets pick up where Wizards left off and try to fill in some rather large gaps that were the lesser factions.

To be honest I don't agree, the guys who are making the new v-set minis are doing a fantastic job. the whole purpose of the v-sets is to keep the game going. most of my squads are made up of both "actual minis" and V-set Minis. I think these minis are balanced and fair when compared the old ones. the whole purpose of v-sets is to continue to make the game playable. if we were to stop now lets face it there would only be a handful of meta squads out there and the game would die really fast. I look at some of the winning squads from regionals this year. take a look at the MI regional when would you really play with jabba the hutt if it wasn't for the hand maddens and atris? so i don't think they need to be separated

A filter would be a welcome addition.
However, in terms of ratings, it seems rather obvious to me that we are at a point where they are near meaningless. Unless I'm mistaken, are there many squads with over 10 ratings? And I'm pretty sure seperating them will keep WOTC only stuff more unrated, or still rated lower.

I actually have the opposite opinion - I think pages like http://www.bloomilk.com/Squad/TopRated are out-dated, as they only have pre v-set pieces. It's a really good snapshot of what squads were good before the v-sets though. It's much more fun having 9 factions that are good, rather than just playing Rebels, New Republic, and Republic all the time.

The squad ratings on BlooMilk are truly worthless, unfortunately.

I often think so, but the current top 5 (the one you can see in My Squads) at 200 is actually really good: Top 200pt. Squads 1. Imperial "Weir"thering the Storm, PA Regional Winner - spryguy1981 2. Old Republic OR Jank - greentime 3. Republic Homicidal Mace - Hinkbert 4. Republic Roll the Bones - Weeks 5. Yuuzhan Vong Jake K's 2011 squad - TimmerB123

Further fracturing an already waning community is a very, very bad idea. If you don't like the v-sets, you're welcome to not use them, but you would be in a very small minority among people who actually still play the game. Most people use and like the v-sets, that should be encouraged so as to have a stronger and more unified community.
Also, this thread should probably be moved to the suggestions forum since it's about a functionality request.

We could turn this post into something positive! My daughter saw this mermaid movie the other day ('Aquamarine', I believe it was called) and she loved it. In it they do this dance scene to a cover of Weezer's 'Island in the Sun' song, which I think has the greatest music video ever made. Don't you think?

I don't much like covers, I prefer the originals. Even if some of the originals were kinda sucky compared to the covers. Unless it is Johnny Cash doing the cover. If he covered your song, the force is/was very strong in you. ps - I'm issuing myself a warning for aiding and abetting a flagrant thread derailment.

Speaking of derailment, has anyone heard that seen the music video to 'Needing Getting' by OK Go? It rules!
(Johnny Cash doing 'Rusty Cage'... awesome.)

I wouldn't go that far, but with 'hate' ratings and a small sample size for most squads, it makes them not worth much at all. The thread about top-4 at regionals is a far, far more useful resource.

Agreed. The small sample size is the biggest thing. That is why the older squads in the Top Rated list TheHutts linked to above are still there. High number of ratings, and higher average ratings. So we kind of have this "tried and true" list, and a "what's hot recently" list in other places, more or less.

I search for a few ideas and if I look for anything from the WoTC days I get a million squads with a great rating sample, whereas now if you search for more recent squads there is a smaller list and much fewer ratings. It works in some ways as generally (I'm ignoring that 6 I got on my awesome Joruus/Kel-Dor squad) the people who still rate are good players with some good input.

@R5Don4: Of course I don't feel like Taung Warrior completed the faction, but I also don't feel like fake pieces do the job either.
@engineer: Your logic is rather flawed. Just because I don't frequent the forums on this site doesn't automatically mean I don't use or care about this site nor does it automatically mean I don't actually care about my topic.
@kezzamachine: I do believe the Jedi mind trick would be most effective on you. ;)
I expected a lot of hate and disagreement, but I was surprised that very few people actually bothered to make intelligent points/arguments and that not one person agreed with me. All well, at least I tried. =)

Okay, let's bring this back on topic, and not discuss the members posting. Disagreeing about the V sets does not make someone a troll, nor does it mean they are a specific person. Let's try to accept all opinions about this game.
