Most factions have some key pieces that make it hard to play competitively without them. I'd say your best bet is a Rebel squad with Luke and Yoda. An Old Republic squad with The Jedi Exile, Malak (with the Jedi Crusader), and Mical, the Disciple could also fare well if you get good matchups. Maybe even Vong could work.

A general rule is to have door control (override, satchel charge, etc.) and a good amount of activations. Nothing is worse than activating all your guys and then getting locked out. I've never played at a proper tournament before, but these are the two things that I'd make absolutely sure to put in my squad!

You can make a great squad using only the Vset pieces. You can use any reasonable stand-in for the vset pieces - as long as it's clear to your opponent. Using a sub for every single vset piece in your squad might be too confusing, though. Not sure.

At any rate, I think your quickest path to a competitive squad is Republic Echanis. You have GOWK and Atris' Vset piece. You can use Princess Leia Hoth Commander as a proxy for Brianna, and you can get Echani Handmaidens for a dollar or less each pretty easily. You can get any Talz piece to stand in for Foul Moudama, a key piece for the Republic. Talz are also under a dollar per piece. R2-D2, Astromech Droid would be the other key piece you'd want - it's a bit more pricey, though, since it's a WotC Very Rare.

Dieandbemetal posted this the other day - it's a pretty decent mostly v-set only squad: http://www.bloomilk.com/Squad/119208/mace-the-pimp- - although the one Dr Daman posted below is stronger (and won a Regional).

GOWK and Atris' CEs don't stack, right?

This squad won a regional. its pretty much all V-Set pieces and it's real fun to play too ThumbsUp

Right - the attack part doesn't stack, but the Echanis would be +4 Attack, +4 Defense, +10 Damage from the CEs. Effectively gain another +4 Attack, +4 Defense from Meditation.

That's a pretty good idea. Here are some viable proxies from the OP's collection...

Kavar - human male with lightsaber: Anakin, Champion of Nelvaan.
Atton 'Jaq' Rand - human male shooter: Han Solo, Smuggler
Carth Onasi - human male shooter (trooperish): Elite Rebel Commando
Bastila Shan, Jedi Master - female human with lightsaber: The Dark Woman
Old Republic Senator - you have the correct proxy for this one: a Mon Calamari Medic

The rest is door control and filler. You don't have the best set of filler, but this will do:

R7
Ponda Baba, Glactic Criminal: proxy with Aqualish Technician

OR

R7
Antarian Ranger
Rodian Brute

If you can get any ugnaught demolitionists or mouse droids, that would be ideal.
