Play report...

My squad:
http://www.bloomilk.com/Squad/118598/sith-regionals

--Sith Regionals: RevanMaul HauntJaq--
62 Darth Revan, Sith Lord
57 Darth Maul, Sith Infiltrator
36 Atton "Jaq" Rand
27 Lobot
14 Exar Kun, Dark Force Spirit (Haunting Jaq)
3 Mouse Droid

Preferred Reinforcements:
(Lobot) 8 R7 Astromech Droid
(Lobot) 6 Mouse Droid x2
(Lobot) 6 Rodian Brute x2

(199pts. 11 activations)

Round 1: Versus Hinkbert
Squad: Republic
GOWK
Mace Legacy
Shieldbearer
R2 AM
Foul
Lobot
Evazan
Some filler

Map: Peaceful City

My reinforcements: Wicket, 1 mouse, 1 ugnaught, 2 brutes

Lost pretty handily here. Bad move of the game - Maul based Mace and they each took turns attacking. Maul was nearly dead and Evazan was approaching. What I should have done but didn't do: Use Revan and swap Revan into Maul's place to save Maul. (Needed to move a mouse droid near him first - that may not have even been an option at that point - I don't remember if I had one left unactivated.) What was going through my head: "Oh - he's going to heal Mace." Of course Evazan auto-damaged Maul and he died. With Maul only getting one swing at Mace, that was pretty much the game. Eventually I did kill Mace somehow. It ended with R2 towing GOWK around while Revan (with less 30 hp left) tried to stay out of push range. Through a positioning error, Hinkbert left an opening where Revan could have killed GOWK - but he needed both attacks on the Assault to land. One missed and one was Soresu-ed. GOWK pushed leaving himself with 10hp and the win.

Round 2: Versus emtjoe
Squad: Old Republic
Bastila
Jaq
Cad Bane
JBM
Senator
Lobot
Evazan
Filler

Map: Cantina

My reinforcements: Salacious Crumb, 2 Mice, 2 Brutes, 1 Ugnaught

About six hours after this game, all of a sudden it hit me. I made a huge illegal move that was the turning point of the game. I had run Revan up the outside edge of the cantina to reach Bastila in round 2, then swapped in Maul who took out Bastila in one activation with Sith Rage 2. But ABM was active when the swap happened. Blink Blushing I don't know if it was his responsibility to remind me or my responsibility to not 'cheat' (even accidentally), but that's what happened. (Not sure if there's some correction that happens after the fact, either.) At any rate, after that Maul worked his way back toward the center of the squad while my Jaq traded shots with his Jaq. Eventually, my Jaq died along with quite a bit of my filler, but Revan and Maul were barely scratched at the end. Win? Hard to call it that. False start more like it.

Round 3: Versus LeftiesWillRule
Squad: Old Republic
Bastila
Master Thon
OR Trooper (the new Triple Attack one)
Jaq
Greedo BH
Lobot
Filler

Map: Ravaged Base

My reinforcements: 1 R7, 2 brutes, 2 mice

This is the one where I'm kicking myself the most. I chose to set up outside. Using swap, I reached gambit first round and used my 3 overrides to lock him out. He came in through the commander's office. This was very slow to start. I kept the door locked - he was hesitant to open it. At one point he put a couple of Brutes in front of the door. I used an R7 to open the door, then Jaq killed both and closed the door again. Later he opened the door. I proceeded to lock both doors of the commander's office. I had brought in an R7 with reinforcements, so I had an override advantage, plus after killing the Brutes I equaled him in activations. I had 3 rounds of gambit to his zero, but I blew it.

Mistake #1: I opened the door for him. I should have made him open the door.

Mistake #2: If I was going to open the door, I should have just used Jaq to shoot and then close it again immediately. With 2 hits, I could have killed the trooper on Thon's back. Instead, I opened the door and charged in with Darth Maul so he could use Ambush+SR2.

Mistake #3: If I was going to charge in with Maul, I should have killed the Trooper mounted on Thon's back before trying to kill Thon himself. The trooper was able to attack 3 time to Thon's two, and being non-melee, Maul didn't get Teras Kasi versus the trooper.

So, yeah, I made all 3 of those mistakes in one phase... Maul rushed in for 4 attacks versus Thon at 40dmg each. Without Loner, 2 of the attacks missed. One was lightsaber defensed. All that for a whopping 40 damage. Maul was skewered pretty easily after that. Greedo (with a Force point) got rid of Exar Kun before Kun could start stealing force points from Thon. Revan and Jaq fell pretty quickly, too. I don't know if I killed anything besides filler.

Overall, it was a lot of fun. And LeftiesWillRule made some great customs as prizes.

My play report

Homicidal Mace part Deux

Mace Lotls
GOWK
Lobot
Foul
Shieldbearer
R2
Uggie
Map: Peaceful City

First round vesus Flying Arrow (TJ) with Revan, Atton, Maul, and Exar DFS
I brought in Dr. E and a Gran
I won map and went in gambit, he swapped Maul into gambit first round. Second round Mace went after Maul an put 80 on him with 1 crit. Mace then absorbed Maul's rage, but TJ did a smart move of putting Wicket within 6 of Mace, but 7 away from Maul, so he only need 6s to hit so he put some damage on Mace. I then took Maul out via homicidal surgery and used GOWK as a shield against Atton. Next round Mace took out Atton before succumbing to Revan. At the end of the game I had GOWK, R2 and Lobot and he had Revan. Revan got a crit for 50 on GOWK, who rolled 2 consecutive 1s for soresu, ouch. So GOWK is at 80 damage and Revan was at 100 dmg, thus, I used my door control advantage, but then miscounted squares after a few rounds and Revan was able to base GOWK. Thankfully GOWK made his soresu saves and used force push for the win.

3 points.

Second round vesus LeftiesWillRule (Stephen) and Thon with Bastila, Atton, Greedo, and a really sweet Soldier custom
I brought in Ponda and a noble

He won map and we played on ravaged base. All the action took place in the rooms on the map near the 2 lifts. He brought in Atton and took shots at Foul, hit once and Foul used defense. I then we to set up Ponda with the intent of attack next round, he then ran Thon in with a mounted soldier and took out Ponda. So Foul used leap and place Mace adjacent to Atton and Thon. Mace put 60 on Atton. Next round I win init, Mace kills Atton, puts 20 on the Soldier (who I thought only had 20, oops), then uses his last attack on Thon, Mace crits, absorbs the defense, crits on the flurry and absorbs the next defense to, and then does 20 more damage. So, 140 damage total on Thon. He then brought in his Ponda to bodyguard but at that point the game was basically over (although he did stick Mace once with Greedo, grrr). Mace and company went through his guys the next couple rounds and got me my next 3 point win.

Third round versus EmtJoe (Joe) with Bastila, Atton, Cad, and a Battlemaster.
I brought in Ponda and a noble again.

He won map and we played on Cantina. I set up in the atrium, went into gambit, placed Mace in front with the shieldbearer and ponda behind him and locked the single square door. Eventually Joe destroyed the door and tried to shoot Mace with Atton, who hit with a 19, but failed his save so he ate 40 damage. So then brought in the battlemaster. I used Foul to take Mace against Cad, Atton, and a Gamorrean BG. I rerolled the first attack on the BG and finally got the crit I wanted, I then went after Cad and Mace got a crit again on the third attack, taking Cad out and putting 20 more damage on Atton with a flurry. Again, at this point the game was basically over. Atton was unable to hit Mace and next round he died and shortly after so did the battlemaster. I took Lobot and a mouse droid out via the Shieldbearers Atal for funsies and Mace and GOWK went after Bastila. 3 point win.

So I went undefeated for the day with all 3 point wins and won a super awesome custom Salacious Crumb. Stephen's customs are top notch and I highly appreciate his work. Excellent job Stephen. And it was nice to meet a new player (TJ) and the store was gracious enough to let each of us have a mini from their stock so I got a Kota. So, while it was a bummer that we only had 4 players, it was still a fun day, and any day where I get to play, get some new minis and meet some new people is a good day in my book.

In spite of only 3 players making the event (is a GenCon badge really that important, guys? ;) ) we had a great time. With 3 players I had no choice but to join in (good thing I brought my minis) and built my squad with the primary goal of using my Old Republic Trooper custom. I also used Master Thon even though I wasn't finished painting the mini. As it turns out, Thon + the OR trooper is a pretty nasty combo, especially with Battle Meditation.
I think this is the first regional in which half the participants played Old Republic. :P

Although I had for a while believed that this would be my last summer in Dover, my family now has a high probability of staying her for a few more years. If that is indeed the case, you can bet I plan on doing this again next year. And if it takes offering sealed Bounty Hunter packs as prizes (and/or requesting a GenCon badge.....) to get a large turnout, you can bet I'll do it! (as well as offer more custom miniatures)

Here are the photos of the event that I took:

My OR Trooper riding Thon stand against Joe's Bastila Shan and Cad Bane in round 1

Josh Hinkel (Republic) vs Joe Peters (Old Republic) in round 3

The beginnings of my game with T.J./FlyingArrow and his Sith squad in round 3

Prize Time!

Josh Hinken (1st place) won Salacious Crumb

Joe won an Admiral Pellaeon

T.J. won a Mandalorian Counter-Intelligence Officer

In terms of points the tournament went like this:

Round 1
_______________________
Stephen (Old Republic) Joe (Old Republic) >>> Stephen 3 pt win
T.J. (Sith) Josh (Republic) >>> Josh 3 pt win

Round 2
_______________________
Stephen (Old Republic) Josh (Republic) >>> Josh 3 pt win
Joe (Old Republic) T.J. (Sith) >>> T.J. 3 pt win

Round 3
_______________________
Stephen (Old Republic) T.J. (Sith) >>> Stephen 2 pt win
Joe (Old Republic) Josh (Republic) >>> Josh 3 pt win
